A system and method for growing and protecting tree seedlings is provided. The system includes potting tubes that may function as a pot for growing seedlings and additionally as a tree guard for protecting transplanted tree seedlings from pests. The potting tubes are open at both ends and may be secured to a bottom end cap for use as a pot. After a growth period, the end cap can be removed and the tree can be transplanted with the tube surrounding the tree for use as a tree guard. The system includes a tray with end caps attached to the tray for transporting and transplanting large numbers of tree seedlings.

The invention relates to a method for the cultivation of a number of plants (9), comprising providing a carrier with apertures for said plants (3, 13) and providing a water supply (8), wherein said carrier can be provided on said water supply in a floating manner and wherein a growth medium containing the roots of said plant or the precursor thereof are placed in an air-containing intermediate space (10) in the apertures in said carrier at such a distance from said water supply that said roots of said plant or the precursor thereof are situated at a vertical distance (a) from said water supply, wherein at least two horizontally opposing sides of an upper part of the growth medium are sideways supported along a height (h) by corresponding sides of a removable side support structure (18), removably arranged on top of the carrier.

The present invention discloses a collapsible metal planter. The planter has a plurality of wall sections. Each wall section side portion has a first end portion and an opposing second end portion. The end portions are angularly disposed inwards. Each first end portion has a first edge with a V-shaped notch positioned in vertical orientation. Each second end portion has a second edge with a V-shaped notch positioned in vertical orientation opposite to that of the first edge notch. The first edge notch and second edge notch form a square orifice when the first end portion of a wall section is placed in abutment with the second end portion of an adjacent wall section. The square orifice is receivable of a fastener to secure the adjacent wall sections together.

The interlocking components allow for quick connection to facilitate a releasable, watertight connection. The top piece defines a central top opening and a second chamber portion and the bottom piece defines a first chamber portion and a reservoir. When joined to form a unitary container, the first and second chamber portions envelop the flower bulb, the reservoir is configured to allow the roots of the bulb to propagate into, and a resilient member positioned therein forces the bulb upwards allowing the uppermost part of the bulb and growing flower to extend through the central top opening of the top piece. The multi-piece flower bulb container is capable of holding flower bulbs of various shapes and sizes to create a consistent aesthetic appeal while maintaining a stable environment for a growing flower bulb.
