An apparatus for coupling a fishing rod to a rod holder comprises a rod butt holder attached to a fishing rod and selectively and releasably attached to rod holder support arm. The rod holder support arm includes a retaining portion configured to be selectively and releasably attached to the rod butt holder. A latch assembly is coupled to the rod butt holder to releasably secure the rod butt holder to the rod holder support arm.

A locking mechanism for a rod holder. The locking mechanism includes a first locking member having first locking member teeth, a second locking member having second locking member teeth and is selectively movable relative to the first locking member between locked and unlocked positions, a rod engagement member adapted to engage an end of a rod and slidably engaged with the second locking member, and a locking actuator adapted to selectively move the second locking member between the locked and unlocked positions. When the second locking member is disposed in the unlocked position, the rod engagement member is adapted to co-rotate with the second locking member relative to the first locking member. When the second locking member is disposed in the locked position, the second locking member and the rod engagement member are restricted from rotating relative to the first locking member.

A locking mechanism for a rod holder. The locking mechanism includes a first locking member having first locking member teeth, a second locking member having second locking member teeth and is selectively movable relative to the first locking member between locked and unlocked positions, a rod engagement member adapted to engage an end of a rod and slidably engaged with the second locking member, and a locking actuator adapted to selectively move the second locking member between the locked and unlocked positions. A vehicle fishing rod holder with a rod holder body that is couplable to the bed of a truck in a locked configuration utilizing one or more mounting brackets. The rod holder body defines a holding channel for a fishing rod and a discontinuous slot for receiving a rod reel post of the fishing rod. A portable fishing rod holder is provided with a body that is buoyant and has first and second ends. The first end is constructed of a material that deforms upon contact by an object. A plurality of apertures is provided at the first end, the plurality of apertures include a large portion and a narrow portion that is oriented toward a center point of the body. The second end includes a base dimensioned to support the body in an upright orientation. Fishing rods are inserted into the apertures and are secured by a strap that urges the fishing rods toward the center point of the body. Methods and apparatus for expanding a rod from a collapsed position to a formed position are disclosed. One such apparatus includes a plurality of segments for forming the body of the collapsible rod including with each segment coupled to each immediately adjacent segment of the plurality of segments. The apparatus may include a coupler for coupling each segment of the plurality of segments to each immediately adjacent segment of the plurality of segments. A lure case and fishing case are provided for convenient use. The case may be used with collapsible fishing rods and provides a protective case for them. The lure case provides means to separate and distinguish lures for different conditions.
