Filter component
The present invention relates to a filter component comprising a plug of filter material comprising a body of a first filtering material and at least one element of a second filtering material, wherein the at least one element of the second filtering material is inserted in the body of a first filtering material, and wherein a volume ratio between a volume of the at least one element of a second filtering material and a volume of the plug is comprised between about 0.3 and about 0.8.
Smoking article mouthpiece for receiving an insert unit
A smoking article (10) includes an aerosol-generating substrate (12) and a mouthpiece (14) that (i) includes a first hollow tubular segment (24) of elastically deformable material and (ii) is secured to a downstream end of the aerosol-generating substrate; and a second hollow tubular segment (30) adjacent to and upstream of the first hollow tubular segment. The second hollow tubular segment (30) defines a chamber (32) for receiving an insert unit (50). The first hollow tubular segment defines an opening through which an insert unit can pass from the exterior of the mouthpiece into the chamber (32) of the second hollow tubular segment. At least a portion of the first hollow tubular segment inwardly projects into the opening to define at least one elastically deformable projection (26).
Fibers with chemical markers used for coding
Disclosed are fibers which contain identification fibers. The identification fibers can comprise one or more chemical markers, or taggants, which may vary among the fibers or be incorporated throughout all of the fibers. The disclosure also relates to the method for making and characterizing the fibers. Characterization of the fibers can include identifying chemical markers and correlating the chemical markers and a taggant chemical marker amounts of at least one of the chemical markers to manufacturer-specific taggants to determine supply chain information. The supply chain information can be used to track the fibers from manufacturing through intermediaries, conversion to final product, and/or the consumer.
HYDROPHOBIC FILTER
A smoking article includes a smokable material and a filter comprising filtration material that is downstream of the smokable material. The filtration material comprises a sheet of hydrophobic cellulosic material with hydrophobic groups covalently bonded to the cellulosic material.
Molecularly imprinted polymers selective for nitrosamines and methods of using the same
A class of molecularly imprinted polymers that specifically recognizes and binds to nitrosamines members of which class are useful, for example, in analysis and separation of nitrosamines from biological fluids. Such molecularly imprinted polymers are also useful in methods of treating and manufacturing tobacco products and materials.
Filter and tobacco using technology for reducing smell of tobacco smoke on hands
The filter using technology for reducing the smell of tobacco smoke on hands, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises: a filter unit for filtering tobacco smoke, the filter unit being coupled to a tobacco shred; and filter-wrapping paper for wrapping the filter unit. The filter unit or the filter-wrapping paper may contain a material for reducing the smell of tobacco smoke. According to the embodiment of the present invention, green tea extracts containing catechin or other materials for reducing the smell of tobacco smoke, e.g. citric acids, glycerols, tannic acids and the like can be added to a tobacco filter to remove the smell from tobacco smoke generated during smoking, thus significantly lowering the strength of the smell of tobacco smoke on the hands of a smoker as compared to conventional tobacco filters.
Smoking article mouthpiece including aerogel
A smoking article (10) incorporates a mouthpiece (14), the mouthpiece includes an open pore structure converted from an organic gel and a functional material dispersed in the open pore structure, such as aerogel particles (20).
Cigarettes and cigarette filters including activated carbon for removing nitric oxide
Filters and cigarettes include an activated carbon sorbent capable of selectively removing nitric oxide from mainstream tobacco smoke. Methods for making cigarette filters and cigarettes using the activated carbon sorbent and methods for treating mainstream tobacco smoke produced by smoking a cigarette comprising the sorbent are also provided.
METHOD FOR APPLYING HEAT CONDUCTING PATCHES TO A MATERIAL WEB
A smoking article is provided, including a carbonaceous combustible heat source, an aerosol-forming substrate, and a wrapper circumscribing at least the heat source and the aerosol-forming substrate. One or more heat conducting elements overlie a rear portion of the heat source and an adjacent front portion of the aerosol-forming substrate. At least one heat conducting element includes a patch of thermally conductive printable medium printed onto the wrapper. Also provided is a method for applying heat conducting patches onto a web of smoking article wrapper material, wherein at least some of the patches include an area of thermally conductive printable medium.
SMOKING ARTICLE COMPRISING AEROGEL
A smoking article is provided that includes an aerogel, which can be optionally impregnated with a catalytic metal compound or can optionally be coated with at least one aerosol-forming material and a flavoring agent. The smoking article comprises various segments such as a heat generation segment, an aerosol-generation segment, and a mouth end. The aerogel can be placed near or within any of these segments.
The presence of the aerogel can reduce the concentration of certain gaseous components of mainstream smoke generated during use of a smoking article incorporating a heat generation segment containing a fuel element.
