A helmet body includes an outer shell and an energy management liner with an outer shell lower edge extending between the inner surface and the outer surface of the outer shell. At least two shoulder pad recesses are positioned at a lower edge of the outer shell on a respective left and right sides of the helmet. The energy management liner is adjacent to the inner surface of the outer shell and includes at least two shoulder pads formed of a foamed energy management material. Each of the at least two shoulder pads is received into one of the at least two shoulder pad recesses on the respective left or right side of the helmet, each shoulder pad extending from inside of the outer shell to across at least a majority of a width of the lower edge of the outer shell.

A head protection apparatus for covering a primary head protection device worn on the head of a sports player includes a base having a rim defining an open bottom for wear on the head of the player. A framework extends upwardly from points along the rim. The head protection apparatus includes a face shield coupled to upper ends of the framework and is pivotally movable between a closed configuration in which a lower edge bears against the rim thus blocking access to an interior area and an open configuration pivoted about an axis defined by the rear bar and which allows access to the interior area. The face shield includes a top wall having a crowned configuration so as to redirect otherwise direct impact forces. The head protection apparatus is worn by a sports player and for blocking impact to a primary player protection device worn by the player.

A head and neck restraining system includes a helmet, a neck brace structure, and a tether system. The neck brace structure includes a neck extension that is attached to shoulder extensions. The tether system includes at least one ring structure that is configured to attach to the helmet and a single tether material that slides through the at least one ring. The single tether material is guided along the neck extension and attached to the shoulder extensions. The at least one ring structure is positioned between the neck and shoulder extensions along the single tether material and splits the load on the helmet to the neck extension and the shoulder extension along to the single tether material created by exerted forces.

A guard to protect the neck of a person absorbs kinetic energy from an object that, if not for the guard, would strike the person's neck. The guard includes a body that has a material that deforms when an object strikes it, a shape configured to cover the posterior region of each of the cervical vertebrae of a person's spine when the guard is worn by a person to protect their neck, and a coupler to position and hold the body over the posterior region of each of the cervical vertebrae of a person's spine. Described herein is motion damper comprising an elastically deformable sealed exterior housing, a perforated interior housing wholly contained within said exterior housing having at least one perforation, a visco-adaptive fluid contained with said exterior housing and

an activating system adapted to selectively modify the viscosity of said visco-adaptive fluid and thus modify the elastic properties of the motion damper.

A helmet stabilization system and apparatus for reducing the incidence of whiplash and neck injuries while wearing a helmet, such as in contact sports. The invention includes a helmet mount; a base mount configured for attachment to a shoulder harness; and a flex rod interconnectable between the helmet mount and the base mount. The flex rod, when interconnected between the helmet mount and the base mount provides a resistance to an extension or a compression sequence responsive to a contact imparted on the helmet. An oobleck may be provided in a coupling between the flex rod and the base mount to permit voluntary head movements of the user and to provide a resistance responsive to an impact force.

Arrangements described herein relate to systems, apparatuses, and methods for a headset system that includes a transducer configured to collect physiological data of a subject, a device housing configured to support the transducer, an insert portion disposed on the device housing, a support structure comprising a baseplate and a receiving portion, and a head cradle supported by the baseplate. The receiving portion extends in a direction that is oblique with respect to the baseplate. The insert portion is sized and shaped to engage the receiving portion to removably attach the device housing to the baseplate.
