A seat 100 moveable between a seat configuration and a bed configuration, the seat 100 comprising a squab 120 including upper and lower cushions 126, 124, a conversion mechanism configured to move the squab 120, for converting the seat 100 between the seat and bed configurations, and a backrest 122 connected to the squab 120 or conversion mechanism, for moving with the squab 120, the squab 120 being laterally displaceable by the conversion mechanism between a first position in the seat configuration and a second position in the bed configuration, and the backrest 122 being configured to occupy a space at an end of the squab 120 which is made available by lateral displacement of the squab 120 into the second position, and the upper cushion 126 of the squab 120 being movable relative to the lower cushion 124 for covering the backrest 122 in the bed configuration.

A cushion, mattress or mattress section for a convertible furniture article defines a plurality of apertures, such as slits or slots or recesses, extending into or through the cushion or mattress section that are cut in a direction at an angle to the first length of the mattress section. The cushion or mattress section expands from its first length to a second length that is longer than the first length upon applying a stretching force to the cushion or mattress section and thereby positioning the mattress section into the open or sleeping configuration. Expansion is due to resilience of the material forming the mattress or mattress section in combination with opening of the apertures. The sleeping surface of the mattress or mattress section may remain substantially planar in both the open (sleeping) position and closed (seating) position.

A foldable sofa-bed includes: a base with an internal cavity and a rear member; a foldable bed that includes separate and distinct head, intermediate and seat sections, each with a respective cushion, wherein in a folded position, the intermediate and seat sections are generally horizontally disposed and positioned in vertically stacked relationship, with the intermediate and seat cushions facing generally upwardly, and the head section is generally vertically disposed and positioned adjacent the rear wall of the base, and in an unfolded position, the head, intermediate and seat sections are generally horizontally disposed in serial alignment; and a bed folding mechanism that is attached to the base and the head, intermediate and seat sections that controls the movement of the bed between the folded and unfolded positions. A bed assembly and method of use for connecting a foldable bed frame to the back support of a sofa. The assembly includes a first slotted link attached to the back support and a double slotted link affixed to the foldable bed frame. An L-shaped adjustment link defining a plurality of apertures is slidably connected to the slotted link and pivotably connected to the double slotted link whereby folding the bed frame causes the back support to displace along the first slotted link. Depending on whether the foldable bed frame is being removed from or inserted into the storage cavity within the sofa, the displacement of the back support along the slotted link causes the space between the bed frame and the back support to change.
