CUSHION FOR SEATING
20180000669 · 2018-01-04 ·

A hybrid seating cushion made up of a cushion base and a cushion insert. The cushion base has a seating surface in which a void in or extending through the cushion base is formed. A cushion insert such as an air bladder or fluid sack is positioned within the void. A lip or upper surface around an opening in the void overhangs at least a portion of the cushion insert, thereby minimizing the size and corresponding negative effects of a transition area where the base and the insert overlap.

CYLINDRICAL FOAM BODY, USE THEREOF AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THIS
20180000257 · 2018-01-04 ·

Cylindrical foam body with a central cavity, whereby the foam body is formed by a curved flexible foam strip of which two opposite ends are fastened together, whereby the foam body has a height, whereby the strip 2 has a length, a height and a width, whereby after forming the foam body the longitudinal direction of the strip 2 is the height direction of the foam body, whereby the foam body has an outside and an inside. The foam body is provided on its outside with two or more grooves that extend over the height of the foam body and which only cut into the foam body over a part of the distance between the outside and the inside.

Methods for packaging cushions with elastomeric cushioning elements
11547218 · 2023-01-10 · ·

A method for packaging a cushion includes coating a cushioning element with a powder while the cushioning element is in an expanded state and then compressing the cushion to a compressed state. As the cushioning element is compressed, the powder prevents surfaces of the cushioning element (e.g., surfaces of intersecting walls that define hollow buckling columns of a cushioning element formed from an elastomeric polymer extended with a plasticizer, etc.) from adhering to each other. The powder may allow the cushioning element to substantially return to its expanded state substantially immediately following removal of a compressive force from the cushioning element.

MATTRESS

A mattress 10 is disclosed. The mattress 10 comprises at least two laminated layers 12, 14. The at least two layers 12, 14 include a first layer 12 defining a support surface 16 configured to support a user, and a second layer 14. The first layer 12 is formed from a resiliently deformable, fluid-impervious material, and defines a plurality of perforations 18 arranged to communicate fluid through the layer 12. The second layer 14 is joined to the first layer 12 to cover an end of at least some of the perforations 18, and is formed from a fluid-pervious material. The second layer 14 is arranged to allow fluid to be communicated between at least some of the perforations 18 and a location external to the second layer 14.

Customizable pressure offloading cushioning device with variable flexibility

A customizable cushioning device for supporting an anatomical region of a patient can include a main body. The main body can have an intact base and a plurality of removable pillars. The plurality of removable pillars can be disposed on the intact base. The main body can include a first portion and a second portion. The first portion can have a first flexibility. The second portion can have a second flexibility. The first flexibility is different from the second flexibility.

SYSTEM FOR SUPPORTING THE HUMAN BODY, OR A HUMAN BODY SEGMENT, PROVIDED WITH AN IMPROVED CUSHIONING ARRANGEMENT
20220312984 · 2022-10-06 ·

A support system for the human body, or a human body segment, is provided. The system comprises a covering lining in which a plurality of pockets is defined in which there are inserted one or more filling elements forming together a cushioning arrangement of the support system. Filling elements with different physical properties, for example different stiffnesses, are inserted in the different pockets of the covering lining. The pockets may be independent of one another and removably connected to one another, so that they can be combined with one another in the way that best adapts to the specific morphology of a single user. The support system can be made, for example, in the form a cushion, a seat, a backrest, a mattress or with any other shape that may be desired.

Patient support apparatus with magnetorheological material

A patient support apparatus is provided with selective stiffening features. The patient support apparatus may include a support substrate defining a patient support surface. The support substrate may include a magnetorheological material providing selective reinforcement support of at least a portion of the patient support surface to redistribute pressure about a surface of a patient. The magnetorheological material may include a distribution of ferromagnetic particles disposed within a polymeric material and exhibits a shape conforming, variable stiffness in response to exposure to a magnetic field. A controller may be provided and configured to create a correlation of patient specific data with an optimal stiffness or inflection force deflection (IFD) of the patient support surface, and generate a strength of the magnetic field based on the correlation.

BEDDING COMPONENTS INCLUDING A DESICCANT

Bedding components generally include a desiccant applied or infused into a selected bedding component. The desiccant can be microencapsulated, applied as a topical solution, and/or provided within a container including a moisture permeable membrane.

Compartmented cushioning device and method

The present application is directed to a Compartmented Cushioning Device and Method offering one or more cool or warm feeling compartments, formed between or surrounded by one or more components, with each component, including filler material encased in surface material. The presence of one or more compartment openings provide access to the one or more compartments; whereby a user has multiple options when placing all or part of one or more of their fingers, hands, wrists, or arms into either the same or separate compartments to cushion, insulate, or protect them; while in addition, allowing the user to cushion, insulate, or protect, as well as support, adjust, or precisely position their head, face, or other parts of their body. An assortment of configurations, ranging from soft to firm, can be designed in an array of colors, shapes, and sizes, for a wide variety of uses: indoors, outdoors, or in vehicles.
