System and method for transporting suture

A suture transport system is disclosure for placing a flexible member along a tunnel, the system including a means of transporting a flexible member along a tunnel from a first opening in the tunnel through to a second opening at an opposite end of the tunnel, such that the flexible member extends from both the first and second opening. The system also includes a means of capturing a portion of the flexible member at the second opening, to inhibit the flexible member from retracting into the tunnel second opening. The means of capturing includes an aperture for capturing the portion of the flexible member.

Anchor apparatus

An anchor for anchoring tensile members to bone includes: a housing extending along a central axis, with a hollow interior; a collet in the hollow interior having a central bore for accepting tensile members and an exterior surface, the collet being configured to swage around and against tensile members; a sleeve having a peripheral wall defining interior and exterior surfaces, the sleeve disposed in the housing's hollow interior axially adjacent to the collet, and movable parallel to the central axis between first and second positions; and wherein at least one of the collet exterior surface and the sleeve interior surface is tapered and the sleeve and the collet are arranged so movement of the sleeve from the first position to the second position causes the sleeve interior surface to bear against the collet exterior surface, causing the collet to swage radially inwards around and against one or more tensile members.

IMPROVED IMPLANTABLE PLATE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THEREOF

The present invention concerns a method for obtaining an implantable plate for healing a fractured joint of a patient, comprising the steps of: 1) providing a 3D representation of a bone structure in a zone around a joint fracture, the zone comprising essentially all fragments of broken or ruptured bones and at least the ends of unbroken bones which form part of the fractured joint; 2) identifying different bone fragments within said 3D representation; 3) simulating a reduction of said bone fragments into a full joint; 4) calculating optimal parameter values for an implantable plate; 5) obtaining the implantable plate taking into account the calculated parameter values, whereby in step 3, the reduction is simulated by automatedly fitting positions and orientations of said bone fragments to a 3D representation of a healthy joint of said patient.

A medical device and a method of using same are provided. The medical device includes a first arm and a second arm mounted on a support rail, each of the first arm and the second arm having a bone contacting region. The medical device also includes a mechanism for reducing a distance between the bone contacting regions hereby applying a force to a bone or bones positioned therebetween and a force gauge for indicating a force applied by the bone contacting regions.

Surgical fastening

Methods of joint repair employing sutures and attached fixation devices are discussed. For example, a bone block graft procedure (e.g., Latarjet) is discussed which employs fixation devices to secure contact between graft surfaces of two bones. A suture construct, including a continuous suture loop routed through a first fastener, is secured to a first bone. Looped ends of the suture loop are passed through passageways formed in the two bones. The looped suture ends are further routed through a second fastener. The second fastener is mounted to the second bone and a sliding knot, formed in the looped suture ends, is advanced into contact with the second fastener. The suture is further tensioned using a tensioner device to secure the two bones together.

IMPLANT AND METHOD FOR ANKLE SYNDEMOSIS TREATMENT

An implant includes a curved first plate section having a curvature about a longitudinal axis extending in a longitudinal direction. The first plate section has a first hole and a second hole. The first hole and the second hole are positioned to receive respective bone screws for attaching the implant to a first curved surface of a bone having a syndesmosis. A second plate section extends continuously from the first plate section. The second plate section has at least a third hole that is positioned to be offset from the first hole and the second hole in a direction that is anterior or posterior from the first hole and the second hole in a case where the longitudinal axis is aligned along a superior-inferior direction. The third hole is configured to receive at least one screw or at least one button for holding a suture at a position offset from the first line segment hole and the second hole in the anterior or posterior direction, for reducing the syndesmosis.

Embodiments of knotless button-suture assemblies for orthopedic stabilization are disclosed. The button-suture assembly includes a button having a first opening, a second opening and a center opening. The assembly further includes a tensioning member having two tensioning member ends exiting from the first opening and the second opening of the button and disposed in the proximal direction. The assembly further includes a locking pin mated with the button through the center opening of the button in such a manner that allows a proximal movement of the tensioning member when a pulling force is applied to the tensioning member ends towards a proximal direction and prevents a distal move-ment of the tensioning member when the pulling force applied to the loose ends of the tensioning member ceases to exist.

A surgical fastener includes a cannulated collapsible fastening body having a trailing end and a leading end and defining a passage extending from the trailing end to the leading end, and a pin having a non-threaded shaft at least partially disposed within the passage and an enlarged tip. A method of using the surgical fastener includes engaging an end of a driver with a recess in a head of the surgical fastener, including inserting an extension at the end of the driver into the passage, and inserting the fastener into a bore in a bone during which the extension of the driver abuts a trailing end of the shaft of the pin to prevent the pin from moving in a direction from the leading end to the trailing end relative to the fastening body.

A cortical shaft bone fixation apparatus includes a housing having a leading portion and a trailing portion, the leading portion configured to fit within a diameter of an affected cortical shaft bone, the leading portion having first and second sections. The apparatus further includes an expansion mechanism adapted to transition the first and second sections from a first position to a second position, the first and second sections providing an outward force against the inside surface of the cortical shaft bone when the first and second sections transition from the first position to the second position, the trailing portion of the housing abutting a leading end of the affected cortical shaft bone. The trailing portion of the housing includes a pair of angled tapers extending inwardly toward each other to a minimum separation distance at an extreme end of the housing.
