SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ALTERING ROTATIONAL ALIGNMENT OF BONE SECTIONS
The disclosure describes systems and methods for altering bone sections in a patient. In one embodiment, a system may include an intramedullary implant including: a housing configured to be secured to a first section of bone, where the housing may include one or more shaft engaging grooves axially extending along an inner surface thereof; a distraction shaft configured to be secured to a second section of bone, where the distraction shaft may include one or more grooves axially extending along an inner surface thereof. The system may further include an actuator disposed within the housing and operably coupled to the distraction shaft, and in response to rotation of the actuator, the one or more grooves of the distraction shaft may engage with the one or more shaft engaging grooves of the housing, causing axial displacement of the distraction shaft relative to the housing.
ORTHOPAEDIC IMPLANT AND SYSTEM
The present invention relates to an orthopaedic implant and system for fixation of bones and a method for the use of the orthopaedic implant and system. The orthopaedic system finds utility for fixation of bones such as fractures of the tibia, although it may be used in any suitable long bone.
FLEXIBLE BONE IMPLANT
Examples of devices and methods for stabilizing a fracture in a bone include a body having an elongate distal portion having an outer surface defining a screw thread and an elongate proximal portion having a non-threaded outer surface.
BONE FIXATION SYSTEM AND ELEMENTS THEREOF
A fixation system (900) for the fixation of a first bone fragment (932) relative to a second bone fragment (934); the fixation system (900) comprising at least one first bone engagement element engagable with the first bone fragment (932), wherein the first bone engagement element has an elongate body portion, a proximal end, a distal end, and a passageway extending through the body portion from the proximal end to the distal end, at least one further bone engagement element engageable with the second bone fragment (934) and having a tensile element (920) securement portion for affixing a tensile element (920) to the further bone engagement element; wherein the tensile element (920) passing the first bone engagement element when engaged with the first bone fragment (932) is fixed relative to the further bone engagement element when engaged with the second bone fragment (934) by the tensile element (920) securement portion; such that the first bone fragment (932) is affixed relative to the second bone fragment (934) from tensile stress in the tensile element (920).
Internal ankle fixation systems, foot securement and jig devices, and related methods
Embodiments described herein provide an implant for rigid intramedullary fixation of the hindfoot complex with the midfoot and/or forefoot and methods of implanting the same. Embodiments described herein can allow for the implant to be adapted to the patient based upon the extent of bone loss and instability. Embodiments herein also provide a jig system to facilitate the shaping of the foot and/or the implantation of the described internal fixation systems.
Fastening devices, systems, and methods
A pedicle bone fastener may include a shaft, a helical thread, and an integrated attachment feature. The shaft may include a proximal end, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis. The helical thread may be disposed about the shaft along the longitudinal axis between the proximal and distal ends of the shaft. The helical thread may include a first undercut surface and a second undercut surface. The first undercut surface may be angled toward one of the proximal end and the distal end of the shaft and the second undercut surface may be angled toward the other one of the proximal end and the distal end of the shaft. The integrated attachment feature may be disposed at the proximal end of the shaft and configured to be adjustably secured to a spinal stabilization implement.
EXPANDABLE BONE FIXATION SCREW WITH REMOVABLE CORE PIN
A bone screw, and method of using the same, are described. The bone screw includes a head, a distal threaded portion, and an expandable intermediate portion. The intermediate portion is expandable in response to a force being applied from an unstressed or relaxed state to a stressed or unrelaxed state. A removable core pin may be inserted into the intermediate portion to stretch or stress and/or stabilize the intermediate portion.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS WITH COMPLIANT DISTAL STUD CONNECTION
An orthopedic instrument for insertion of an orthopedic device into an intramedullary canal of a bone is disclosed. The orthopedic instrument can include an elongate post and a stud. The post can have a longitudinal axis and can extend along the longitudinal axis between a first end portion and a second end portion. The stud can be connected to the post along a portion of a longitudinal length thereof comprising a first end part, A second part of the stud can be free to elastically deflect laterally with respect to the longitudinal axis when subjected to a bending load and return to a first position when unloaded.
TELESCOPIC NAIL AND ASSOCIATED PERFORATING TOOL
Telescopic nail (2) for the treatment of fractures or deformations of long bones, as for example in the case of osteogenesis imperfecta or pseudo-arthrosis. comprising: a hollow stem (2); a rod (10) telescopically inserted into said hollow stem (2); a first fastening element (20) coupled to an end of said hollow stem (2) for fixing to a first long bone end; a second fastening element (30) coupled to an end of said rod (10) for fixing to a second long bone end.
Advantageously, one end of said hollow stem (2) is provided with coupling means (40) for coupling to an end of a tool which can be inserted into a cavity formed in the bone for insertion of the nail.
Compression nut and a system for treating a bone
A compression nut for treating a bone includes a head and a body extending longitudinally from the head to a free end. The body includes a first portion including an exterior surface tapering from the head toward a second portion. An exterior threading extends along an exterior surface of both the first portion and the second portion of the body. The nut also includes a channel extending longitudinally through the body. The channel includes an interior threaded extending along an interior surface of the channel configured to threadedly engage a portion of a locking screw therein.
