In one embodiment, the modular intramedullary fixation device is formed from a plurality of substantially Z-shaped modular elements, which are assembled together to a desired length and width. In additional embodiments, the modular intramedullary fixation device includes a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a connector for connecting the two portions to each other. The connector may be provided in a wide variety of configurations, including an adjustable connector for adjusting the length of the modular intramedullary fixation device. Each of the proximal and distal portions may further have an adjustable length.

Stabilization System, Implant, And Methods For Preventing Relative Motion Between Sections Of Tissue
20230000529 · 2023-01-05 · ·

A system for preventing relative motion between bones or sections of bone, for example, an ilium and a sacrum. The system includes an insertion tool and an implant. The implant includes a trunk, a distal anchor, a proximal anchor, and a stem coupled to the trunk. A driver of the insertion tool receives an input for a drive shaft of the insertion tool to draw the stem proximally such that the trunk is drawn towards the insertion tool. The drawing of the trunk and engagement of first and second engagement features is configured to deploy the proximal anchor outwardly. The distal anchor may be an expandable member, and the implant may define a bore extending through the proximal anchor for the distal anchor to receive injectable material. The system may be cannulated such that the insertion tool and the implant may be directed over a guidewire to position the implant.

A cortical shaft bone fixation apparatus includes a housing having a leading portion and a trailing portion, the leading portion configured to fit within a diameter of an affected cortical shaft bone, the leading portion having first and second sections. The apparatus further includes an expansion mechanism adapted to transition the first and second sections from a first position to a second position, the first and second sections providing an outward force against the inside surface of the cortical shaft bone when the first and second sections transition from the first position to the second position, the trailing portion of the housing abutting a leading end of the affected cortical shaft bone. The trailing portion of the housing includes a pair of angled tapers extending inwardly toward each other to a minimum separation distance at an extreme end of the housing.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING BONE FRACTURES, AND/OR FOR FORTIFYING AND/OR AUGMENTING BONE, INCLUDING THE PROVISION AND USE OF COMPOSITE IMPLANTS

A composite implant comprising an injectable matrix material which is flowable and settable, and at least one reinforcing element for integration with the injectable matrix material, the at least one reinforcing element adding sufficient strength to the injectable matrix material such that when the composite implant is disposed in a cavity in a bone, the composite implant supports the bone. A method for treating a bone, the method comprising: selecting at least one reinforcing element to be combined with an injectable matrix material so as to together form a composite implant capable of supporting the bone; positioning the at least one reinforcing element in a cavity in the bone; flowing the injectable matrix material into the cavity in the bone so that the injectable matrix material interfaces with the at least one reinforcing element; and transforming the injectable matrix material from a flowable state to a non-flowable state so as to establish a static structure for the composite implant, such that the composite implant supports the adjacent bone.

Device for osteosyntheses or arthrodesis of two-bone parts, in particular of the hand and/or foot

In one embodiment, the present invention is a method of arthrodesis or osteosyntheses of a first bone part and a second bone part, including the steps of positioning a first fixation zone of an implant in the first bone part and a second fixation zone of the implant in the second bone part, both the first and second zones made of shape-memory material and, prior to positioning the bone parts, are in an inner position; and while the first fixation zone is within the first bone part and the second fixation zone is within the second bone part, fixating the respective first and second fixation zones within the respective bone parts through shape-memory action at body temperature.

Intramedullary Bone Fixation Device For Ribs

An intramedullary bone fixation device that includes a shaft with a flexible region. The flexible region may be configured to flex from a first shape to a second shape as the shaft moves along a curved medullary canal. For example, the bone fixation device may include a distal bone screw that is configured to move along the curved medullary canal of first and second segments of a fractured bone (e.g., two segments of a broken rib) and fasten to the segment bone segment. The bone fixation device may include a locking member (e.g., a proximal bone screw) that is configured to lock the shaft to the first bone segment. For example, the shaft may be fixed to the distal bone screw and ratchetably coupled to the shaft such that the first and second bone segments can be compressed together by urging together the distal bone screw and the locking member.
