Anisotropic wound closure systems

Novel compositions and systems for closure of wounds are disclosed. The compositions provide devices of improved flexibility and elasticity and are readily applied to wound sites or over wound closure devices. The present invention is also directed to a novel platinum catalyst for use in such compositions. The catalyst provides for rapid curing on topical surfaces such as skin and bonds to such surfaces in about 2-5 minutes.

The second forming cup can comprise a second interior sidewall comprising a second vertical portion which is substantially perpendicular to the tissue contacting surface. The first vertical portion and the second vertical portion can extend through the centerline, wherein the first interior sidewall and the second interior sidewall can comprise a trap for deforming a first staple leg of a staple to a first side of the centerline and for deforming a second staple leg of the staple to a second side of the centerline.

Ultrasonic surgical blades

An ultrasonic surgical blade includes a body having a proximal end, a distal end, and an outer surface. The distal end is movable relative to a longitudinal axis in accordance with ultrasonic vibrations applied to the proximal end. At least a portion of the outer surface of the body comprises a lubricious coating adhered thereto. The lubricious coating has a coefficient of friction that is less than the coefficient of friction of the outer surface of the body.

Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to microsurgical cutting devices for ophthalmic procedures. In certain embodiments, a cutting tool assembly includes a first blade in a fixed position and a second blade configured to move relative to the first blade to perform a cutting motion. The first blade includes a first longitudinal body portion and a first end portion extending laterally from the first body portion. A distal surface of the first end portion has a bowed morphology to match a curvature of a retinal surface and is further coated with a first coating to reduce damage to ocular tissues during use. The second blade includes a second longitudinal body portion and a second end portion extending laterally from the second body portion. A distal surface of the second end portion includes a cutting edge for cutting tissues, while a proximal surface thereof is coated with a second coating.

A mechanical thrombectomy apparatus for removing a clot from a vessel includes an elongate inversion support catheter having a distal end opening, an elongate puller extending within the support catheter, and a knitted tractor tube extending over an outer surface of the support catheter, inverting into the distal end opening of the support catheter, and attached to the elongate puller at a first end within the support catheter, wherein the portion of the knitted tractor tube extending over the support catheter comprises a wire forming a helical spiral of alternating teardrop shaped-links each having a rounded apex, wherein each link is connected to two adjacent links so that the apex of each link is on an outward-facing surface of the tractor tube, wherein the links flare outward from an outer wall of the support catheter when the puller is pulled proximally within the support catheter.

BIOABSORBABLE STAPLE COMPRISING MECHANISMS FOR SLOWING THE ABSORPTION OF THE STAPLE

A surgical staple comprising a substrate and one or more coatings which slows the bioabsorption of the substrate. The coating can be selected so as to affect the environment surrounding the staple once the staple is implanted in the patient. The effect on the environment can cause the bioabsorption to occur within a desired time frame.
