A suction handpiece for a dental treatment unit has a negative pressure connection which can be connected with a negative pressure source of the treatment unit. A saliva connection of the suction unit can be connected with a saliva suction cannula and an atomized spray connection that can be connected with an atomized spray suction cannula. A branched flow path connects the negative pressure connection with both the saliva connection and the atomized spray connection and includes a branching section on which a negative pressure channel ending on the negative pressure connection divides into a saliva channel ending on the saliva connection and an atomized spray channel ending on the atomized spray connection. The atomized spray channel at its narrowest point has a first cross sectional area which is at least twice as large as a second cross sectional area at the narrowest point of the saliva channel.

Dental aerosol and liquid suction device

The present invention relates to dental suction devices for capturing aerosols and managing fluid accumulations in a patient's mouth during a dental procedure. The dental suction devices comprise a housing tube having a first end connectible to a vacuum source; a funnel demountably engageable with a second end of the housing tube; a pliable tube extending throughout the housing tube and extending outward from the funnel. The first end of the pliable tube is connectible to the vacuum source and its opposite end is positionable in a patient's mouth. The second end of the pliable tube has a plurality of apertures, and one or more pairs of retaining collars adjustably spaced-apart therealong. The pliable tube may be looped around the end of a row of teeth and secured in place by a tie that is secured to the spaced-apart pair of retaining collars between two adjacent teeth.

Various implementations include a dental suction device configured to be disposed on a toothbrush having at least one bristle head. The dental suction device includes a main conduit, at least one pair of secondary conduits, and a shaft. The main conduit includes a first end and a second end spaced apart from the first end. Each of the secondary conduits includes a first end and a second end spaced apart from the first end. The first end of each of the secondary conduits is connected in fluid communication with the main conduit. The shaft is coupled to and disposed between the pair of secondary conduits. The shaft is shaped to receive and retain a portion of the toothbrush in between the pair of secondary conduits such that the pair of secondary conduits is configured to apply suction at least subjacent the bristle head.

The conduit includes a flexible and bendable body that is easily manipulated into different positions and supports the suction head about the orifice of the patient during treatment. Preferably, the orifice is a mouth, and the treatment is a dental treatment. In this embodiment, the apparatus provides for the hands-free suction of aerosols and/or saliva and blood splatter produced from the mouth of the patient during the dental treatment.

The device includes a hose including a suction end, a connection end configured to be connected to a dental suction system, and a hollow fluid flow passageway extending between the suction end and the connection end. The hollow fluid flow passageway is configured to pass evacuated matter from the suction end to the connection end. The device also includes a nozzle that is coupled to the suction end of the hose and adapted to be disposed outside of an oral cavity of the patient. A first portion of the hose is articulable relative to a second portion of the hose, such that a dental professional performing the dental procedure does not need to hold the device during the dental procedure but can easily reposition the device if needed.

A removably attachable mirror apparatus is adapted to be attachable to a suctioning tool of a dental evacuation system for removal of aerosols during a dental procedure. The mirror apparatus includes a closed-loop collar having a mirror post retaining portion adapted to retain a dental mirror. The stem is typically bent at an end in proximity to the mirror to allow for better viewing of a patient's mouth. The collar is sized to create an interference fit over the suctioning tool but is removable after use. The collar may be made of a metal, resin, plastic or silicone. The collar may be 3-D printed. The mirror apparatus may be made to be autoclavable between uses. Alternatively, the collar may be made to be disposable after a single use. The mirror apparatus provides advantages of easy use, low cost and improved remediation of potentially dangerous aerosols generated during common dental procedures.

A sterile absorbent covering encompasses the one or more sets of the plurality of holes, the covering being permeable to bodily fluids. The siphoning device is connected to a vacuum system that generates a negative pressure, causing fluids that have accumulated in the absorbent covering to be withdrawn into the vacuum system. Accordingly, a durable, simple non-gauze system for automatically clearing blood/fluid from a surgical site is described.

The suction tool has a central lumen or bore, and one or more peripheral flow passages that are in communication with the central lumen. A low volume evacuation tool, such as a saliva ejector, can be connected or integrated with the central lumen for evacuating saliva and debris. The peripheral flow passages evacuate aerosols and other airborne particles. The suction tool can be connected with conventional vacuum pumps. The suction tool can have a control port that can be opened or obstructed to control the flow rate through the central lumen and the flow passages.
