PROSTHETIC LIMB SOCKETS AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING
A prosthetic socket includes a conical cup, an outer layer on the outer surface of the conical cup, and a reinforcement layer on the inner surface of the conical cup. The prosthetic socket is shapeable after being heated to a shaping temperature. The outer layer is less malleable than the conical cup at the shaping temperature but has a higher rigidity than the conical cup at the shaping temperature and has smoother outer surface than an outer surface of the conical cup. The reinforcement layer has a higher resistance against circumferential stress than the conical cup. A residual limb or a model of a residual limb can be inserted into the preformed prosthetic socket. The prosthetic socket is then heated to the shaping temperature and molded to conform to the contour of the residual limb or the model to form a prosthetic socket.
PROSTHETIC ATTACHMENT SYSTEM AND CORRESPONDING LOCK ASSEMBLY
A prosthetic attachment system and corresponding lock assembly are provided for connecting a distal end of a prosthetic liner to a distal end of a prosthetic socket, by combining vacuum suspension and mechanical suspension. An attachment pin extends from a distal end of the prosthetic liner. A connector assembly secures to a distal end of the prosthetic socket and is adapted for receiving and locking to the attachment pin. A lanyard assembly has a first end secured to the connector assembly and a second end extending outwardly from the distal end of the prosthetic socket and adapted to secure to an exterior surface of the prosthetic socket by an external securing system.
System for supporting a liner on a frame element
A system for supporting a liner on a frame element includes a liner and a frame element. A fastener connects the liner to the frame element, such that the fastener corresponds to an aperture defined by the frame element. The fastener is configured and dimensioned to removably secure to the frame element at the at least one aperture. The frame element comprises a semi-rigid or rigid base frame element, and an interface layer secured about the base frame element. The interface layer is formed from a resilient material more compressible than the base frame element, and the liner is more flexible than the interface layer.
Prosthetic Thumb Device
Embodiments include a prosthetic thumb device that includes a track configured to attach to a prosthetic socket, a carriage, and a locking mechanism. The carriage can include a first component that couples to the track such that the carriage is operable to move along the track, and a second component that is configured to couple with a prosthetic digit and operable to rotate with respect to the first component. The locking mechanism can be coupled to the carriage and configured such that, in a first state, it prevents the carriage from moving along the track in a first direction and, in a second state, it allows the carriage to move along the track in the first direction. Embodiments can also include the track having a curved profile, and the carriage is operable to move along the curved profile of the track.
Device and method for cleaning a prosthetic liner
A method for supporting a pin-type prosthetic liner includes placing the liner in an inverted state on a standoff extending from the base of a liner stand. The standoff extends to an upper end that supports the liner on the liner stand. The upper end is an open end that receives the pin of the inverted liner being supported on the liner stand.
Prosthetic socket system, and prosthetic socket and liner
A prosthetic socket system comprising a prosthetic socket and a liner, said prosthetic socket having a distal end region, at least one socket wall extending therefrom in proximal direction, and connection means for securing a prosthetic component. The socket wall, when in the applied state, at least partially enclose a stump that is received in the prosthetic socket The liner includes a proximal entry opening and a lateral wall which extends in the distal direction, at least partially surrounds a stump when in the applied state and is arranged between the stump and the prosthetic socket when in the applied state. A coupling device is arranged between the liner and the prosthetic socket in the distal end region, and, on the outer side of the lateral wall of the liner and on the inner side of the socket wall, resistance regions are arranged or formed which interact with one another and which counteract a movement extracting said liner out of the prosthetic socket, in the proximal direction.
Breathable Residual-Limb Socket System
Breathable residual-limb system that admits air and allows sweat to evaporate from the surface of the residual limb. In an embodiment, the system comprises a liner sock to be worn on the residual limb, and comprising air-permeable textile forming a substantially cylindrical portion that is closed on a distal end and open on a proximal end and comprising an internal surface and an external surface. The liner sock further comprises a friction-interface material that covers only a portion of the internal surface of the air-permeable textile, such that, when worn on the residual limb, the friction-interface material contacts a surface of the residual limb, and an uncovered portion of the air-permeable textile which the friction-interface material does not cover allows air to pass between an external environment of the liner sock and the surface of the residual limb.
Anchoring system for attaching a prosthesis to a human body
The present invention relates to an anchoring system for attaching a prosthesis to a human body, comprising: an anchoring element, an abutment, an abutment screw for attaching the abutment to the anchoring element, the anchoring element comprises a connection area for the abutment, the connection area comprising a press-fit portion such that the abutment is attached to the anchoring element in the connection area by a press-fit connection, wherein the connection area comprises an anti-rotation geometry and the abutment comprising a corresponding mating anti-rotation geometry proximal to the press-fit portion, and where in the connection area comprises a conical portion proximal to the anti-rotational geometry forming a mating geometry for a corresponding conical portion in the through-hole of the abutment.
Prosthetic attachment system
A prosthetic attachment system includes an insert arranged for connection to a prosthetic liner, and an attachment unit arranged for connection to a distal end of a prosthetic socket. The attachment unit comprises a body defining an axis and a central opening for selectively receiving the insert. The body carries a plurality of locking elements that are distributed circumferentially about the axis and radially repositionable relative to the axis. A release mechanism is slidably positioned on an outer surface of the body to move the prosthetic attachment system between a locked configuration in which the locking elements are radially repositioned to lock the insert in the central opening of the body and an unlocked configuration in which the insert is released from the central opening.
