Artificial joints using agonist-antagonist actuators

Artificial limbs and joints that behave like biological limbs and joints employ a synthetic actuator which consumes negligible power when exerting zero force, consumes negligible power when outputting force at constant length (isometric) and while performing dissipative, nonconservative work, is capable of independently engaging flexion and extension tendon-like, series springs, is capable of independently varying joint position and stiffness, and exploits series elasticity for mechanical power amplification.

A hip brace is provided which includes an iliac crest pressure plate, a femur pressure plate, a quadriceps pressure plate, and a bracket to connect the plates. The bracket includes one or more adjustable hinges to adjust positioning of at least one of the iliac crest pressure plate, the femur pressure plate, or the quadriceps pressure plate to correspond with dimensions of a user. The bracket further includes a range of motion restriction dial to control flexion or extension of the hip of the user, where the range of motion restriction is positioned on the bracket to correspond to the femur pressure plate.

Modular semi-active joint exoskeleton

Systems, methods, and apparatus provide artificial knees. Artificial knees include a thigh link configured to move in unison with a thigh of the person, a shank link configured to be rotatably coupled to the thigh link, and a compression spring rotatably coupled to the thigh link and coupled to a second end of shank link with a second end of the compression spring. During a first range of motion, the compression spring is configured to provide an extension torque between the thigh link and the shank link causing the artificial knee to resist flexion. After the first range of motion, the compression spring is configured to provide a flexion torque between the thigh link and the shank link encouraging the artificial knee to flex resulting in toe clearance during the swing phase. During the swing phase, the compression spring provides no torque between the thigh link and the shank link.

Knee brace devices, systems and methods

A knee brace comprising a frame assembly comprising an outer frame portion and an inner frame portion. The outer frame portion has a first outer transverse member, a second outer transverse member, and an outer side member configured to extend along a length of a first side of a user's leg when worn by the user, the outer side member extending between the first outer transverse member and the second outer transverse member. The inner frame portion has a first inner transverse member, a second inner transverse member, and an inner side member opposite the outer side member and is configured to extend along a length of a second side of a user's leg when worn by the user, the second side member extending between the first inner transverse member and the second inner transverse member. The outer frame portion and inner frame portion define a top portion of the frame assembly and a bottom portion of the frame assembly, the top and bottom portions configured to be pivotable relative to each other. The frame assembly additionally comprises a flex member connecting the inner frame portion and the outer frame portion in at least one of the top and bottom portions of the frame assembly. In embodiments, a securement system may be included to form a knee brace assembly or system.

Modular Multi-Positional Rigid Splinting Device

A finger brace device is disclosed herein. The finger brace device can comprise a first hinge component configured to connect a proximal component configured to fit around at least a first portion of a finger near a wrist, to an intermediate component located at a central portion of the apparatus, wherein the proximal component is located at a lateral portion of the apparatus. Also disclosed is a second hinge component configured to connect the intermediate component of the apparatus to a distal component. Furthermore, a ball and socket joint is configured to allow a broad range of motion between the proximal component of the apparatus and the plate component.

Joint for rehabilitation device

A joint for a rehabilitation device and a rehabilitation device are disclosed. The joint is defined for operation between an end of a first member and an end of a second member. The joint enables the second member to pivot at the joint with respect to the first member. The joint includes a positioning mechanism for defining a set position from which the second member pivots. The joint also includes a restriction mechanism for restricting the degree of pivoting of the second member, from the set position.
