A system and method for donning and labeling a body cast provides a protective body cast that is labeled. The system and method provides a protective body cast that forms padded protection around the body of a bedridden patient; and especially around the hip, buttock, and lower extremity pressure points. The body cast is composed of a nanomaterial and serves as an envelope for an inner lining of a softer material such as a composite foam rubber. The body cast is sectioned into a multi-layered enclosing cloth support wrap that is fabricated from a nanomaterial, an inner surface having padding, and at least one auxiliary padding that detachably attaches to the body cast for additional padding. Labels detachably attach to the lower portion of the support wrap for indicating information pertinent to the patient. A caregiver accesses the label to read and mark directly on a bedridden patient.

A composite moldable splint and method for using the same is described. In some embodiments, the splint has at least a partially fluid-filled inner volume, which in some embodiments may include foam, rubber, water, or pelletized material, enclosed by a flexible liner, surrounded by a thermoplastic layer that is flexible and moldable when heated. The inner volume, which may include a thermoactive adhesive having differing viscosity characteristics at a plurality of temperatures, provides the ability to mold the cushion into a wide range of shapes and contours, such as when forming around a body part. The thermoplastic layer provides the ability of the cushion to be molded when heated, while the inner volume tends to maintain a shape, and allows the thermoplastic layer to stay in its formed shape as the cushion cools. The cushion may be used in a range of medical applications for stabilizing patients and body parts.

A foldable splint and method of use is provided. The foldable splint includes a main body divided into a plurality of panels and segments by a grid of living hinges. Each panel includes opposed first and second outer segments and a plurality of inner segments extending therebetween. By folding the main body along segment hinges, the splint is moved to a first rigid configuration for securing an appendage in a straight configuration. By further folding the splint at opposed pinch locations, the splint is moved to a second rigid configuration for securing an appendage in a bent configuration. By folding the splint along panel hinges, the splint is moved to a third rigid configuration for securing around an abdomen or pelvis of a user. When not in use, the splint can be moved back to the stowable configuration by folding the various panels over each other.
