Auto adjustment of blood treatment parameters based on patient comfort

A blood treatment machine includes a patient comfort feedback mechanism configured to be adjusted by a patient to indicate comfort levels of the patient. The machine is configured to adjust one or more treatment parameters based on the patient feedback.

Systems and Methods for Converting an Apheresis Fluid Processing Circuit to Single or Double Needle Mode

Systems and methods for performing apheresis procedures, including photopheresis, are disclosed. The systems and methods utilize a disposable fluid circuit that can be converted from a double needle configuration to a single needle configuration and from a single needle configuration to a double needle configuration. A controller directs the action of system pumps to clear potentially stagnant blood residing in the fluid circuit, tracks system parameters and status before and after conversion, and verifies that the procedure may proceed in its new configuration.

Medical wetness sensing devices and related systems and methods

A medical wetness sensing device includes a base adapted to be disposed on a wearer of the medical wetness sensing device. The base includes a first electrical conductor and a second electrical conductor electrically insulated from the first electrical conductor. The first electrical conductor includes a hinge portion enabling a first portion of the first electrical conductor to deflect, at the hinge portion, relative to a second portion of the first electrical conductor. The medical wetness sensing device includes a controller electrically connected to the first electrical conductor and the second electrical conductor. The controller is configured to detect a presence or an absence of a medical fluid electrically connecting the first and second electrical conductors.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MONITORING A FLUID PROCEDURE

A computer-implemented method comprises providing a fluid circuit comprising fluid pathways configured to mount and associate with a durable processing device comprising a pressure sensor in communication with a controller and a fluid pathway. A container is connected to the pressure sensor and may receive a volume of fluid. A change in pressure values between a first and second time is measured from when the volume of fluid is not in communication with the pressure sensor to when the volume of fluid is in communication with the pressure sensor, the volume of fluid within the container or a presence or absence of a fluid connection to the fluid pathway based on the change in pressure values is determined, and a response action is executed if the volume of fluid within the container is not within an authorized volume range for the time period, or if a fluid connection is unauthorized.

In some examples, a smart assistant device may receive information associated with a previous medical treatment provided to a patient by one or more medical devices. The smart assistant device may determine, based at least in part on the received information and a medical treatment plan for the patient, an adjustment to one or more parameters of an upcoming scheduled medical treatment provided by the one or more medical devices. The smart assistant device may program or otherwise control the one or more medical devices to make the adjustment to the one or more parameters of the upcoming scheduled medical treatment provided by the one or more medical devices.

Extracorporeal Device and Method for Removal of Secondary Membrane

An extracorporeal blood treatment device and a method are provided for removing a secondary membrane formed on a semipermeable membrane of a dialyzer during an extracorporeal blood treatment. The extracorporeal blood treatment device operates in a first operating mode in which a dialysate outlet valve is open such that dialysate flows through a dialyzer feed line, through a dialysate chamber, and into and through a dialyzer discharge line. The extracorporeal blood treatment device operates in a second operating mode to remove the secondary membrane from the semipermeable membrane. During the second operating mode, the dialysate outlet valve is closed for a duration of time such that dialysate is prevented from flowing through the dialyzer discharge line. A backflush procedure results wherein a volume of dialysate passes from the dialysate chamber through the semipermeable membrane and into the blood chamber.

In embodiments of the invention, there is provided a dialyzer or filter comprising hollow fibers, in which blood flows on the exterior of the hollow fibers, and dialysate or filtrate may flow on the inside. The external surfaces of the hollow fibers may have properties of smoothness and hemocompatibility. The fiber bundle may have appropriate packing fraction and may have wavy fibers. Optimum shear rates and blood velocities are identified. Geometric features of the cartridge, such as pertaining to flow distribution of the blood, may be different for different ends of the cartridge. Air bleed and emboli traps may be provided. Lengthened service life may be achieved by combinations of these features, which may permit additional therapies and applications or better economics.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PERFORMING EXTRACORPOREAL PHOTOPHERESIS
20220347368 · 2022-11-03 ·

Systems and methods are disclosed for performing online extracorporeal photopheresis in which the needs of a particular patient as to the fluid balance to be achieved and the time allotted to perform the procedure can be prioritized. Whole blood is removed from a patient and introduced through a processing set into a separation chamber to separate the desired cell population from the blood. The separated cell population is processed through the set which is associated with a treatment chamber where the cells are treated. Once treated, the cells are returned to the patient.

Systems, methods, and devices for removing circulating tumor cells from blood

A crossflow filter includes a rigid cylindrical inner wall and a rigid cylindrical outer wall with an inelastic filter membrane positioned therebetween defining a retentate channel inside the filter membrane and a permeate channel outside the filter membrane. Further, the filter includes transition channels shaped and connected to the inner and outer walls to deliver a flow of fluid from an inlet port to the retentate channel and to capture flow flowing longitudinally along the cylindrical inner and outer walls from both the retentate and permeate channels to respective outlet ports.
