POWDER DISPERSION METHODS AND DEVICES
A dry powder inhaler includes a powder storage element configured to hold a powdered medicament and an inlet channel receives, powdered medicament from the powder storage element that is entrained in an airflow. The inlet channel has a first diameter and defines an opening. The inhaler includes a dispersion chamber that receives the airflow and the powdered medicament from the opening. The dispersion chamber has a second diameter. The inhaler includes an actuator housed within the dispersion chamber. The actuator oscillates within the dispersion chamber when exposed to the airflow to deaggregate the powdered medicament entrained by the airflow passing through the dispersion chamber. A ratio between the first diameter and the second diameter is between about 0.40 and 0.60 such that an audible sound is produced as the actuator oscillates. The inhaler includes an outlet channel through which the airflow and powdered medicament exit the inhaler.
INHALER DEVICES, MEDICATION FORMULATIONS USED THEREWITH AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURE
Exemplary dry powder inhaler devices may include a housing body having a medicine capsule recess therein, a pair of air inlets each fluidically connecting to the recess, and an outlet body coupled to the housing body. Each inlet may have a width no greater than 1.17 mm. The outlet body may have a channel fluidically connecting the recess to an opening and configured to allow a user to draw air through the opening, thereby allowing an airstream to be drawn through the air inlets, into the housing body recess where it causes the capsule to spin and eject its contents into the airstream, and through the outlet body channel and opening to deliver the substance into the user's lungs. Dry powder respirable drug blend formulations, methods of manufacturing the formulations and drug/device combinations are also provided.
DRY POWDER INHALER WITH AN ADHERENCE/COMPLIANCE MONITOR
A dry powder inhaler and an adherence and/or compliance monitor for use with the inhaler are provided. The inhaler has a cover which is pivotable relative to its housing in order to expose a mouthpiece. The monitor has one or more sensors. The inhaler and the monitor have formations for mounting the monitor onto the inhaler. The inhaler and monitor are designed so that when the monitor is mounted onto the housing of the inhaler and the cover is opened, the cover at least partially covers and protects the monitor.
INHALER FOR USE WITH A COMPLIANCE MONITOR
A dry powder inhaler is provided. The inhaler is adapted for detachably mounting a compliance monitor having a pressure sensor. The inhaler has a housing comprising first and second shell parts, and a mouthpiece which defines an inhalation passage. An external surface of the housing has an orifice. A conduit from the orifice to the inhalation passage is formed by a channel in one of the shell parts and a corresponding channel cover in the other shell part. When the compliance monitor is mounted on the housing, the pressure sensor is adjacent to the orifice and is in fluid communication with the inhalation passage via the conduit.
Blister pack and inhaler comprising the same
Provided is a blister pack for a dry powder inhaler configured to deliver a first powder medicament and a second powder medicament different from the first powder medicament. The first and second powder medicaments are contained within blister pockets defined in a strip. A series of blister pockets is defined in the strip, which series extends linearly along the length of the strip. The first and second powder medicaments are contained in blister pockets of the series. Alternatively or additionally, each of the blister pockets is elongated such as to have a largest dimension parallel with the length of the strip. These measures, either individually or in combination, enable minimizing of the width of the strip in spite of the strip accommodating both the first and second powder medicaments.
INHALER ARTICLE WITH FOLDED DISTAL END
An inhaler article (150) includes a body extending along a longitudinal axis from a mouthpiece end (154) to a distal end (156), a capsule cavity (155) defined within the body and a capsule disposed within the capsule cavity. The capsule cavity is bounded downstream by a filter element and bounded upstream and distally by a deformable element (158) the deformable element deforms to expose an open distal end and allow the inhaler article to receive swirling or rotational inhalation airflow during consumption.
Dry powder inhaler
A dry powder inhaler for a capsule containing dry powder, the inhaler comprising a housing having a capsule receptacle, two actuator buttons arranged on opposing sides of the housing and two perforation needles, each needle being fixedly connected to an actuator button and movable relative to the housing towards each other from a normal position to a perforation position along an actuation direction to perforate a capsule arranged in the capsule receptacle, wherein a first end of each actuator button is connected to the housing at a lower portion of the housing and in that a second free end of each actuator button is movable into the perforation position such that the perforation needle is moved along a circular line.
INHALER ARTICLE WITH A TWISTED DISTAL END ELEMENT
An inhaler article (110) comprises a body (112) extending along a longitudinal axis (A) from a mouthpiece end (113) to a distal end (114), a capsule cavity (116) defined within the body, and a distal end element (118) disposed at the distal end and extending to the capsule cavity. The distal end element comprises an element distal end (120), an element inner end (122), a solid core portion (124), and at least two grooves (126). The solid core portion extends from the element distal end to the element inner end. The at least two grooves are helical grooves that rotate about solid core portion along the longitudinal axis from the element distal end to the element inner end. The at least two helical grooves extend along an outer surface (128) of the distal end element.
INHALER ARTICLE WITH OPEN DISTAL END, AND INHALER SYSTEM
An inhaler article (150) includes a body (151) extending along a longitudinal axis of the inhaler article from a mouthpiece end (154) to a distal end (156), a capsule cavity (155) and a capsule (160) retained within the capsule cavity. The capsule cavity is defined within the body and bounded downstream by a filter element (157) and bounded upstream by a tubular element (153) defining a central passage (152) in fluid communication with the capsule cavity. The central passage forms an air inlet aperture extending along the longitudinal axis of the inhaler article from the distal end of the body towards the capsule cavity, wherein the tubular element has a central passage inner diameter in a range from about 50% to about 90% of an inner diameter of the capsule cavity. The inhaler article is configured to receive a swirling inhalation airflow into the central passage.
INHALER ARTICLE WITH TANGENTIAL AIRFLOW END ELEMENT
An inhaler article includes a body extending along a longitudinal axis from a mouthpiece end to a distal end, a capsule cavity defined within the body and a tubular element extending from the distal end towards the capsule cavity. The tubular element defines a central passage extending from the distal end towards the capsule cavity. The tubular element includes at least one air inlet allowing air to enter into the central passage. The at least one air inlet extends in a direction that is tangential to the central passage.
