Valves for fire suppression systems
11547887 · 2023-01-10 · ·

A valve comprises a housing having a main inlet, a detection port and an outlet, each providing a channel extending from an exterior of the valve into a hollow interior defined in part by the housing. The inlet is arranged, in use, to be in fluid communication with the interior of a pressurised cylinder of extinguishant fluid. The detection port is arranged, in use, to be in fluid communication with a fire detection system. The valve has two valve parts which are relatively movable between a first position, a second position and a third position. In the first position, a face seal prevents communication between the high pressure chamber and the low pressure chamber, in the second position, the face seal is in an unsealed position and allows communication between the high pressure chamber and the low pressure chamber, and in the third position, the face seal prevents communication between the high pressure chamber and the low pressure chamber.

Fire suppression system and method

A fire suppression system includes at least one high pressure gas source containing an inert gas, at least one low pressure gas source containing an organic halide gas, a distribution network connected with the high pressure gas source and the low pressure gas source to distribute the inert gas and the organic halide gas, and a controller in communication with the distribution network. The distribution network includes flow control devices configured to control flow of the inert gas and the organic halide gas. The controller is configured to initially release the inert gas in response to a fire threat to reduce an oxygen concentration at the fire threat below a preset oxygen concentration threshold, and release the organic halide gas to increase an organic halide gas concentration at the fire threat above a preset organic halide gas concentration threshold while the oxygen concentration is below the preset oxygen concentration threshold.

Systems and methods of an integrated fluid control valve and valve actuator assembly are provided. The assembly includes a pressure operated fluid control valve for controlling the flow of liquid from a liquid supply piping system into a sprinkler piping system of a fire protection system when transitioning the fire protection system from a stand-by state to an actuated state. The control valve defines a valve chamber for holding a pressurized fluid to prevent the flow of fluid through the control valve. A valve actuator is coupled to the fluid control valve housing for setting of the fluid control valve in an unactuated ready state and for operating the fluid control valve automatically and/or manually. The assembly has a common supply port to supply fluid to the control valve and the actuator and a common discharge port connected to multiple devices that can place the system in an actuated state.

A fire suppression system includes at least one first gas source containing an inert gas, at least one second gas source containing an organic halide gas, a distribution network connected with the first gas source and the second gas source to distribute the inert gas and the organic halide gas, and a controller. The distribution network includes a common manifold, input lines connecting the first gas source and the second gas source with the common manifold, output lines leading from the common manifold, and flow control devices. The controller is in communication with the distribution network and configured to distribute the inert gas responsive to a fire threat signal and determine whether to distribute the organic halide gas based upon a location of a fire threat.

Pre-primed preaction sprinkler system

A residential or commercial sprinkler system is provided wherein the sprinkler heads and piping distribution network are provided with a relatively low pressure fire suppressant liquid in place of pneumatic pressure, which is typical, and control valve keeps fire suppressant supply pressure from entering the discharge sprinkler system at design discharge pressure until a fire detection system detects a fire condition. Upon the detection of a fire condition, a control valve is opened to provide the sprinkler heads and piping distribution network with a fully pressurized supply of fire suppressant. Also in the case of electric control power loss the system will operate from loss of outlet supervised pressure releasing sprinkler liquid suppressant to the discharge system of closed fused sprinklers.
