Disclosed herein are nanoporous membranes for separating a target substance from a non-target substance in a fluid medium and methods of making and use thereof. The nanoporous membranes comprise a 2D material permeated by a first and second population of pores; wherein the average pore diameter of the first population of pores is greater than or equal to the van der Waals diameter of water and less than the average size of the non-target substance in the fluid medium; wherein the average pore diameter of the second population of pores is greater than or equal to the average size of the non-target substance in the fluid medium; and wherein substantially all of the second population of pores are substantially blocked by a polymer via size-selective interfacial polymerization; such that the nanoporous membrane allows for transport of the target substance through the nanoporous membrane via the first population of pores.

Organic solvent nanofiltration membranes that include at least one polymer coated expanded polyparaxylylene (eP-PX) membrane are provided. A substrate/support layer may be positioned on one side of the ePPX membrane. In some embodiments, the substrate/support layer is sandwiched between ePPX membranes. Processes for manufacturing and using such organic solvent nanofiltration membranes are also provided. The organic solvent nanofiltration membranes are capable of separating and/or concentrating solutes from a solution comprising a lower molecular weight organic solvent with high permeability. The polymer coated ePPX membranes may also be resistant to chemical attack, resistant to gamma radiation, thermally stable, biocompatible, and strong.

The disclosure relates to a method for separation and purification of N-acetyl-glucosamine, and belongs to the technical field of biological engineering. In the disclosure, a raw material solution containing N-acetyl-glucosamine is obtained by microbial fermentation or by hydrolyzing the chitin. The raw material solution is subjected to flocculation pretreatment, and continuous centrifugation or pressure filtration is performed to remove suspended solids such as microorganisms, proteins and polysaccharides to obtain clear liquid. Double-stage ion exchange chromatography is performed to remove impurities such as charged organic molecules and inorganic salts. Membrane concentration is performed to efficiently remove water to improve the concentration of the target product. Spray drying or further evaporation concentration and crystallization are performed. Finally drying is performed to obtain an N-acetyl-glucosamine crystal of which the purity is more than 99%.

Provided is a high permeance nanofiltration membrane with nanoring-like structure and preparation method thereof. The membrane includes a base film and a polyamide layer having nanoring-like structure morphology on its surface. The method includes: (1) formulating a piperazine nanoemulsion containing a surfactant, vegetable oil, piperazine and water; and (2) infiltrating a base film with the piperazine nanoemulsion, and removing excess droplets from the surface of the base film to obtain a treated base film; covering the surface of the treated base film with a solution of trimesoyl chloride in n-hexane to perform interfacial polymerization; and drying the resulting membrane. Introduction of nano-oil droplets into aqueous phase as templates to construct nanoring-like structure morphology on the surface of the polyamide layer significantly increases the specific surface area and free volume of the polyamide layer without losing the salt rejection rate of the membrane, thereby greatly improving its water permeance.
