A process for the efficient transfer of molecules between phases employing mesoporous poly (aryl ether ketone) hollow fiber membranes is provided. The method addresses the controlled transfer of reactants into and removal of reaction products from a reaction media and the removal and separation of target molecules from process streams by membrane-assisted liquid-liquid extraction. A number of possible modes of liquid-liquid extraction are possible according to the invention by utilizing porous poly (aryl ether ketone) hollow fiber membranes of Janus-like structure that exhibit a combination of hydrophilic and hydrophobic surface characteristics. The method of the present invention can address the continuous manufacture of chemicals in membrane reactors and is useful for a broad range of separation applications, including separation and recovery of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

METHOD FOR CAPTURE OF CARBON DIOXIDE FROM AMBIENT AIR AND CORRESPONDING ADSORBER STRUCTURES WITH A PLURALITY OF PARALLEL SURFACES

A DAC method as well as a unit containing an adsorber structure having an array of adsorber elements with a support layer and on both sides thereof a sorbent layer (1, 2), wherein the adsorber elements are parallel and spaced apart forming parallel fluid passages for flow-through of ambient atmospheric air and steam. The method involves the following sequential and repeating steps: (a) adsorption by flow-through; (b) isolating the sorbent; (c) injecting a stream of saturated steam through the parallel fluid passages and inducing an increase of the temperature; (d) extracting desorbed carbon dioxide from the unit and separating it from steam; (e) bringing the sorbent material to ambient temperature conditions wherein in step (a) the speed of the air is in the range of 2-8 m/s, and wherein at least in step (d) the speed of the steam is at least 0.2 m/s.

NaA ZEOLITE MEMBRANE FOR RECOVERY OF AMMONIA

Ammonia is made in a system that includes a conversion reactor for performing a Haber-Bosch process. Effluent streams from the conversion reactor, which include an ammonia component and excess hydrogen and nitrogen reactants, are fed to a membrane separator that includes NaA zeolite membranes disposed on one or more hollow porous supports. The NaA zeolite membranes are highly selective for the ammonia component, allowing the ammonia to be collected from a lumen of the membranes as a product and enriching the excess hydrogen and nitrogen reactants for reuse in the conversion reactor. These systems and the methods of their use are effective to replace and/or modify the energy-intensive condensation/recycling steps in the traditional Haber-Bosch process used to condense NH3 from the exiting stream of the reactor. The selective removal of ammonia by high quality NaA membranes helps to shift the ammonia evolution reaction.
