MULTI-FUNCTIONAL HYBRID MATERIAL BASED ON SEPIOLITE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL RECOVERY AND BIO-REMEDIATION
A multifunctional hybrid material based on sepiolite for environmental recovery and bio-remediation is described. In particular, the invention describes the design and development of suitably functionalized hybrid nanomaterials starting from sepiolite and the subsequent study of the absorbent and degrading properties in relation to aromatic hydrocarbons, by activating hydrocarbon-clastic bacteria. These nanomaterials have been prepared in order to remove hydrocarbon pollutants (e.g. oil) in natural matrices (marine environment), with potential applications in the field of environmental remediation.
Dopant fluid storage and dispensing systems utilizing high performance, structurally modified particulate carbon adsorbents
A carbon adsorbent storage and dispensing system is provided with a structurally modified particulate carbon adsorbent designed with optimal volumetric surface area for a certain range of particle sizes. Bulk density and specific surface area are carefully balanced to ensure the volumetric surface area remains within an optimal range to create high performance, as measured by dispensing capacity of the dopant fluid that is reversibly adsorbed onto the structurally modified particulate carbon adsorbent.
MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PERFORMING A SEPARATION BASED ON HALOGEN BONDING
This invention relates to a new stationary phase carrying functional groups comprising a halogen substituted aromatic ring. Target molecules can interact with this stationary phase by halogen bonding. The stationary phase is suitable for SPE or chromatographic separations.
DIRECT CAPTURE OF CARBON DIOXIDE
The present disclosure provides systems and methods for direct air capture of carbon dioxide or other gases through a calcium sorbent in a manner that allows for wide scale, relatively low cost implementation. In particular, a calcium sorbent may be provided as a substantially thin coating on one or more substrates and utilized for direct air capture of carbon dioxide through chemisorption. The carbonated sorbent may be disposed of for sequestration of the carbon dioxide or regenerated with capture of carbon dioxide released from the carbonated sorbent during the regeneration process.
CONTAMINATE SEQUESTERING COATINGS AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME
Contaminate-sequestering coatings including a network of hydrolyzed silane compounds including a plurality of thiol functional groups, a plurality of fluorinated functionalities, or both are provided. The contaminate-sequestering coatings may sequester one or more per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), heavy metals, biological species or any combination thereof. Methods of functionalizing a substrate surface with contaminate-sequestering functionalities that sequester one or more PFAS, heavy metals, or both are also provided. Methods of removing contaminants from contaminate-containing liquids, and devices including the contaminate-sequestering coatings are also provided.
Metal Chelating Functional Graphene Materials
Described herein is a functional graphene composition comprising a graphene scaffold and one or more metal chelating functional groups covalently bonded to the graphene scaffold and a porous substrate that includes the functional graphene composition. Also provided is a method of removing dissolved metals from an aqueous liquid, such as, acid mine drainage.
Phase Separation Behavior Modifying Agents for Aqueous Two-Phase Separation Within Porous Material
The present invention relates to a method and/or device for improving the separation behaviors and performance of aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) for the isolation and/or concentration of one or more target analytes from a sample. In one embodiment, the present method and device comprise ATPS components within a porous material and one or more phase separation behavior modifying agents that improve the separation behavior and performance characteristics of ATPS, including but not limited to the increasing the stability or reducing fluctuations of ATPS thought the adjustment of total volume of a sample solution that undergoes phase separation, volume ratio of the two phases of the ATPS, fluid flow rates, and concentrations of ATPS components.
Selective adsorption of gaseous alkenes into non-porous copper(I) complexes: controlling heat of adsorption and loading pressure
Disclosed are air-stable small-molecule adsorbents trimeric [Cu—Br].sub.3 and [Cu—H].sub.3 that undergo a reversible solid-state molecular rearrangements to [Cu—Br.(alkene)].sub.2 and [Cu—H.(alkene)].sub.2 dimers. The reversible solid-state rearrangement allows one to break adsorbent design trade-offs and achieve low heat of adsorption while retaining high selectivity and uptake.
REMOVAL OF SILICA AND TOTAL ORGANIC CARBON FROM WASTEWATER
A filter medium for removal of contaminants from wastewater. The filter medium includes a walnut shell particle having a metal hydro(oxide) nanoparticle bonded to the surface of the nut shell particle. The filter medium is particularly useful for treating produced water and wastewater generated in steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) in recovery of hydrocarbons from oil sands to remove total organic carbon and silica. Processes for preparing the filter medium and for treating wastewater using the filter medium are also provided.
Metal organic framework membranes
Disclosed herein is an ion selective separation membrane including: a metal organic framework layer formed on, in, and/or around a substrate, the metal organic framework having a crystal structure that includes a first surface and a second surface and includes ion transport channels formed between respective pore windows in the first surface and the second surface; first and second electrodes to apply a potential difference across the membrane; wherein the respective pore windows have a pore size that is less than the hydrated diameter of the ion for which the ion selective separation membrane is selective.
