SUPERABSORBENT POLYMER AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME
A superabsorbent polymers and a method of forming the same are provided. The method is processed by adding calcined shell powders to a free radical polymerization. The superabsorbent polymers with more micropores can be obtained. Therefore, absorptivity and permeability for the liquid of the superabsorbent polymers are increased, and diffusibility and liquid conductivity of the superabsorbent polymers are also improved.
Method of chemically modifying plastic surfaces
Disclosed herein are finished products, methods, compositions and kits for derivatizing plastic (e.g., “polymer”) surfaces in a manner that renders the surfaces appropriate for various downstream applications. For example, flow cells incorporating modified plastic surfaces provide greatly enhanced stability for retention of attached chemical species such as polypeptides and nucleic acids.
ZEIN-BASED LOW DENSITY POROUS ABSORBENT
Zein based sorbents and methods of making zein based sorbents are disclosed. A method of making the sorbents involves the use of zein nanoparticles, the creation of an emulsion, use of a cross-linking agent, the creation of a polymeric zein solution, and hydrophobization. Certain versions include iron oxide nanoparticles and the use of magnetic properties. The zein based sorbents may have cross linking and hydrophobic functionalization. Methods of cleaning up bodies of water are also disclosed using the zein based sorbents including cyclical use of the sorbent and burning of the sorbent.
CHROMATOGRAPHIC COLUMN HAVING STATIONARY PHASE THICKNESS GRADIENT
A gas chromatography device for peak focusing of one or more target analytes is provided that include a chromatographic column with an inlet and an outlet. A stationary phase is deposited inside the chromatographic column and has a positive thickness gradient. The stationary phase extends from the inlet to the outlet and has a first thickness at the inlet of the chromatographic column and a second thickness at the outlet of the chromatographic column. The second thickness is at least about 10% greater than the first thickness. Methods of peak focusing in a gas chromatography device, method of verifying peak focusing in a gas chromatography device and creating a gas chromatography device having a chromatographic column with a positive thickness gradient are also provided.
Porous cyclodextrin polymeric materials and methods of making and using same
A nucleophilic substitution reaction to crosslink cyclodextrin (CD) polymer with rigid aromatic groups, providing a high surface area, mesoporous CD-containing polymers (P-CDPs). The P-CDPs can be used for removing organic contaminants from water. By encapsulating pollutants to form well-defined host-guest complexes with complementary selectivities to activated carbon (AC) sorbents. The P-CDPs can rapidly sequester pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and other organic micropollutants, achieving equilibrium binding capacity in seconds with adsorption rate constants 15-200 times greater than ACs and nonporous CD sorbents. The CD polymer can be regenerated several times, through a room temperature washing procedure, with no loss in performance.
WATER-ABSORBING RESIN AND MANUFACTURING METHOD FOR SAME
It is an object to provide a water-absorbing resin that while maintaining water-absorbing resin physical properties such as water absorption performance, has a sufficiently reduced odor produced during swelling. The object is attained by causing the water-absorbing resin to be a water-absorbing resin which is a surface-crosslinked water-absorbing resin, the water-absorbing resin having a volatile component concentration of 3.5 ppm or less as measured when the water-absorbing resin is caused to stand still for 15 minutes under a condition that the water-absorbing resin has a swelling capacity of 1.0-fold.
Preparation Method for Super Absorbent Polymer Film
The present disclosure relates to a preparation method for a super absorbent polymer film. Specifically, it relates to a preparation method for a new type of super absorbent polymer film, which is thin and exhibits excellent absorption performance. In addition, the super absorbent polymer film of the present disclosure has excellent flexibility and excellent mechanical properties, is free from scattering or leaking, and does not require an auxiliary substance such as pulp, so that products can be made thinner and the manufacturing process and costs may be reduced.
Cationic composite silicate filter aids
A cationic composite filter aid may include a silicate substrate, a silica precipitated on the silicate substrate, and a cationic surface modification of the precipitated silica. A method for making a cationic composite filter aid may include providing a silicate substrate, precipitating a silica onto the silicate substrate to form a composite filter aid, and cationically modifying the precipitated silica to form a cationic composite filter aid. A method for filtering a liquid may include providing a liquid for filtering and filtering the liquid through a cationically modified composite filter aid. The cationically modified composite filter aid may include a silicate substrate, a precipitated silica, and a cationic surface modification of the precipitated silica.
Removal of bacteria from drinking water via filtration
The present invention relates to a method for producing biocidal, porous particles of a cross-linked polymer, and to the porous particles that can be produced according to the method of the invention. The invention further relates to porous particles of an amino-group-containing polymer (polyamine) having a relatively low swelling factor. The porous particles according to the invention are used to remove biological contaminants from water and to bind metal-containing ions from solutions. The present invention further relates to a filter cartridge which contains the porous cross-linked polymer particles according to the invention.
SUPERABSORBENT POLYMERS BASED ON COPOLYMERS OF CHARGED MONOMERS AND NEUTRAL MONOMERS
Described herein are superabsorbent polymers that are made of copolymers of charged monomer and neutral monomers, where the neutral monomers are alkyl or aryl end-capped neutral and hydrophilic monomers that lack free hydroxyl groups and have a water solubility of at least 200 mg/mL. The copolymer-based superabsorbent polymers have significantly improved absorbency under load. The compositions and methods described herein are useful in a variety of absorbent products.
