Acoustic based cell separation
Apparatus and method for separating whole cells from a mixture, e.g., including liquid, other cell types, nucleic acid material, or other components. Focused acoustic energy may be used to move whole cells in a chamber so that the cells exit the chamber via a first outlet rather than a second outlet. A filter may, or need not, be used to assist in separation.
Automatic human urine detection system
An automatic human urine detection system comprises a control module, a urine collection module, a detection module, an output module and a cleaning module. The control module controls operation of the system and comprises an instruction input unit. The urine collecting module is used for collecting urine to be detected; the detection module comprises a detection probe holder which is used for detecting the urine to be collected and obtains a corresponding detection report according to a detection result; the output module is used for outputting the detection report; and the cleaning module is used for cleaning system components through which the urine flows or is stored in the system. The automatic human urine detection system integrates automatic collection and subsequent automatic detection of human urine, the whole urinalysis process is effectively simplified, the operation process is humanized, and the user experience is good.
HIGH-LEVEL MULTIPLEXING REACTION VESSEL, REAGENT SPOTTING DEVICE AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
Reaction vessels, cartridges, devices and methods for facilitating high-level multiplexing are described herein. Such reaction vessels can include a planar frame defining a fluidic path between a first planar substrate and a second planar substrate, a fluidic interface is located at one end of the planar frame with a pair of fluidic ports, a well chamber and a pre-amplification chamber. Devices for spotting reagents in wells of high-level multiplexing reaction vessels and improved reagent solutions are also described herein.
UNIVERSAL ASSAY CARTRIDGE AND METHODS OF USE
Sample cartridge, valve assembly and processing methods for providing mechanical lysis, chemical lysis or both for a given fluid sample are provided herein. Such systems can include a sample processing cartridge having a valve assembly configured for transport of the processing of fluid sample within the sample cartridge. The valve assembly can include a valve body and cap that secure a filter therebetween and facilitate inflow of mechanical or chemical lysing agents as needed for a fluid sample. Assay workflows for performing both mechanical and chemical lysis of a fluid sample within the same workflow of a single universal sample cartridge are also provided.
Microfluidic devices containing reversibly pinned droplet samples and methods
A microfluidic device comprising: (a) a plate comprising a substrate, a plurality of electrodes, and a first layer of hydrophobic material applied over the plurality of electrodes; (b) a processing unit operably programmed to perform a method of pinning an aqueous droplet within the microfluidic device; and (c) a controller operably connected to a power source, the processing unit, and the plurality of electrodes. The method of pinning an aqueous droplet comprises: applying an electric field of a first polarity to an aqueous droplet located on the surface of the layer of hydrophobic material and having a first contact angle, to cause the droplet to maintain a second contact angle in the absence of the electric field, wherein the aqueous droplet contains a surfactant and the second contact angle is less than the first contact angle.
METHOD FOR PROCESSING POLYNUCLEOTIDE-CONTAINING SAMPLES
Methods and systems for processing polynucleotides (e.g., DNA) are disclosed. A processing region includes one or more surfaces (e.g., particle surfaces) modified with ligands that retain polynucleotides under a first set of conditions (e.g., temperature and pH) and release the polynucleotides under a second set of conditions (e.g., higher temperature and/or more basic pH). The processing region can be used to, for example, concentrate polynucleotides of a sample and/or separate inhibitors of amplification reactions from the polynucleotides. Microfluidic devices with a processing region are disclosed.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR GENE AMPLIFICATION
An apparatus for gene amplification includes a gene amplification chip including a well configured to accept a sample that is loaded into the well; the gene amplification chip being configured to: thermally dissolve the sample in the well so that a microbe present in the sample is thermally dissolved in the well to release genes in the microbe; and amplify the released genes in the well. The apparatus for gene amplification also includes a temperature controller configured to control a thermal dissolution temperature and a gene amplification temperature of the well.
Systems and methods for biochemical analysis including a base instrument and a removable cartridge
Systems and methods for conducting designated reactions utilizing a base instrument and a removable cartridge. The removable cartridge includes a fluidic network that receives and fluidically directs a biological sample to conduct the designated reactions. The removable cartridge also includes a flow-control valve that is operably coupled to the fluidic network and is movable relative to the fluidic network to control flow of the biological sample therethrough. The removable cartridge is configured to separably engage a base instrument. The base instrument includes a valve actuator that engages the flow-control valve of the removable cartridge. A detection assembly held by at least one of the removable cartridge or the base instrument may be used to detect the designated reactions.
