Diagnostics systems and methods

A point-of-care diagnostic system that includes a cartridge and a reader. The cartridge can contain a patient sample, such as a blood sample. The cartridge is inserted into the reader and the patient sample is analyzed. The reader contains various analysis systems, such as an electrophoresis detection system that uses electrophoresis testing to identify and quantify various components of the blood sample. The reader can process data from the various patient sample analysis to provide interpretative results indicative of a disorder, condition, disease and/or infection of the patient.

Microfluidic device with localized temperature control

A microfluidic apparatus is provided that includes a thermoelectrically-activated pixel array, a microfluidic chip, and control circuitry. The pixel array may include a plurality of thermal pixels, with each thermal pixel including a thermoelectric device. The microfluidic chip may include a microfluidic channel disposed adjacent to the thermal pixels such that thermal energy generated by the thermal pixels is received by the microfluidic channel to form a localized spot within the microfluidic channel corresponding to each thermal pixel. The control circuitry may be electrically coupled to each of the thermal pixels and configured to control the thermal energy being generated by each thermal pixel to control a temperature at each localized spot within the microfluidic channel.

Method for dosing liquid by means of a pipette and a syringe, and pipette for actuating a syringe for dosing liquid

A pipette with an adjustable dosing increment, wherein a control apparatus determines a dosing volume by a set dosing increment when a syringe is inserted in the pipette, and determines a maximum possible number of dosing steps following an execution of a reverse stroke without refilling the syringe given the set dosing increment and completely or partially filled syringe by the position of a displacement means on the path, and displays the maximum number of dosing steps on a display apparatus until the reverse stroke is executed. The control apparatus also determines the number of executed dosing steps and displays the number of executed dosing steps and/or the number of dosing steps still possible without refilling the syringe on the display apparatus.

PORTABLE ELECTRICAL IMPEDANCE-BASED BLOOD TESTING DEVICE FOR DIAGNOSIS AND MONITORING SICKLE CELL DISEASE

An exemplary mobile impedance-based flow cytometer is developed for the diagnosis of sickle cell disease. The mobile cytometer may be controlled by a computer (e.g., smartphone) application. Calibration of the portable device may be performed using a component of known impedance value. With the developed portable flow cytometer, analysis may be performed on two sickle cell samples and a healthy cell sample. The acquired results may subsequently be analyzed to extract single-cell level impedance information as well as statistics of different cell conditions. Significant differences in cell impedance signals may be observed between sickle cells and normal cells, as well as between sickle cells under hypoxia and normoxia conditions.

PIPETTING DEVICE

A pipetting device for taking up and dispensing fluid volumes has a displacement device with a displacement mechanism and a displacement housing. The pipetting device has an adjusting device for changing the stroke of the displacement mechanism. The stroke of the displacement mechanism can be adjusted, and the corresponding adjustment value can be displayed by an adjustment indicator. A coupling device, in a use state, couples the adjusting device to a volume indicator and decoupled the adjustment device from the adjustment indicator. In an adjustment state, the adjusting device is coupled to the adjustment indicator and is decoupled from the volume indicator. The adjustment indicator displays an adjustment value for the stroke of the displacement means. The adjustment indicator can be adjusted in an adjustment state, whereas it is fixed in a use state.
