A clip of the present application generally comprises a first clip member, a second clip member, and a retention feature. The first clip member and the second clip member are coupled together and capable of being placed in at least two positions. In the first position, the clip is capable of receiving a bag containing a fluid, and, in the second position, the bag is capable of being held between the first and second clip members. While the clip is holding the bag, two or more pockets are formed in the bag, and the fluid is generally restricted or prohibited from transferring from one pocket to another pocket while the clip is in this position. A retention feature retains the clip, which is holding a bag, to a centrifuge receptacle and allows the clip to be placed in a predetermined position on the centrifuge receptacle.

The rotor assembly (10, 150, 270, 310) includes a bio-process bag (48), a drum (46) that receives a lower portion of the bag (48), and a pressure ring (50). A holder (54, 182) couples an upper portion of the bag (48) to the pressure ring (50). The pressure ring (50) is coupled to the drum (46) to define an interior space that contains the bag (48). A liquid transport assembly (35, 178, 272) passes through an opening in the holder (54, 182) so that liquids can be added to, and removed from, the bag (48) without removing the rotor (16, 154) from the centrifuge. A bearing assembly (190) in the holder (54, 182) couples the liquid transport assembly (35, 178, 272) to the rotor (16, 154), and enables the liquid transport assembly (35, 178, 272) to remain stationary while the rotor (16, 154) rotates around it. One or more seal assemblies (276, 312) provide a fluid-tight seal against the outer portion of the liquid transport assembly (35, 178, 272), and prevent fluids from leaking from the bag (48) during centrifugation.

METHODS FOR SEPARATING SUSPENSIONS USING SINGLE-USE CENTRIFUGE CONTAINERS

A method for separating a suspension includes dispensing a liquid suspension into a compartment of a first bag assembly. The first bag assembly is then rotated using a centrifuge so as to at least partially separate the suspension, the first bag assembly being disposed within a first insert that is housed within a first cavity of a rotor of the centrifuge, the first insert having an annular lip portion that freely projects out of the first cavity of the rotor by a distance of at least 1 cm.

Blood collection tube

A blood collection tube for physically separating the plasma and red blood cell fractions of a centrifuged sample is described. The blood collection tube has an elastomeric sleeve with rigid tube segments at both ends. Following blood collection and centrifugation, the elastomeric sleeve may be twisted to constrict its inner diameter and physically separate the two fractions. The blood collection tube may be secured in this position with a pin and a clamp, and further with an adhesive tape with pH paper. This enables blood samples to be transferred over long distances to a central lab facility without spoiling.

The rotor may also include a rotor liner positioned between the adapters and the rotor body. The rotor liner engages the receptacles of the rotor body, and provides a plurality of receptacles that receive the adapters, thereby providing an interface between the adapters and the receptacles of the rotor body.

A method for separating a biological suspension includes dispensing a liquid suspension comprised of cells or microorganisms from a bioreactor or fermenter into a sterile compartment of a first bag assembly, the first bag assembly including a collapsible bag having of one or more sheets of flexible film. The compartment of the first bag assembly is sealed closed. The first bag assembly, either with or without a manifold fluid coupled therewith, is then rotated, such as by using a centrifuge, so that the liquid suspension separates within the compartment into a pellet comprised of the cells or microorganisms and a liquid supernatant.

The present invention provides an automated system and method to isolate nucleated blood cells from whole blood or bone marrow. A disc mounted to a centrifuge system with spinning rotor is used to manipulate cells by channeling fluids while subjected to high gravitational field. The disc embodies at least two axisymmetric processing stations connected by a circular channel. Each station contains multiple chambers connected by fluidic channels to controllably transfer fluids. First stage separation allows for the isolation of the buffy coat layer while the second stage separation utilizes gradient density fluids to isolate the targeted nucleated cells from the buffy coat layer in the spinning disc.
