The invention relates to a method for coating cavity walls, in particular cylinder bores of engine blocks, In the method, a coating is applied to a cavity wall using a coating lance. In addition, a cavity diameter is measured using a measuring apparatus. According to the invention, the method is characterized in that at least a plurality of diameter values of a first cavity are measured at different heights of the first cavity using the measuring apparatus, and in that a coating of variable thickness is applied to a wall of the first or a second cavity using the coaling lance, the thickness of said coating of variable thickness being dependent on the determined diameter values. The invention additionally describes a corresponding coating system.

SPRAY COATING SYSTEM AND METHOD

A spray coating system includes a spraying robot sized to fit within a conduit. The spraying robot includes arms that extend outward and retract inward to maintain contact with an interior surface of the conduit. The spraying robot is configured to be coupled with hoses that separately supply different fluids to the spraying robot. The spraying robot includes a spray head from which a compound formed from the fluids is sprayed onto the interior surface of the conduit. The spraying robot is configured to be pulled through the conduit and/or self-propel in the conduit to spray the compound onto the interior surface of the conduit and form a coating thereon.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR THE METAL COATING OF A BORE WALL

The invention relates to a method and a system for the metal coating of a bore wall of a bore in a workpiece by means of atmospheric plasma spraying, wherein a coating lance having an anode and a cathode is moved axially into the bore and, in doing so, is rotated about its longitudinal axis, between the anode and the cathode an arc is produced, into which a plasma gas mixture is introduced and ionized, wherein a plasma flow is produced, a coating powder is supplied into the plasma flow and the plasma flow with the particles is sprayed onto the bore wall and on the bore wall a coating is formed. According to the invention provision is made in that the coating lance is moved into the bore at an axial feed speed and is rotated at a rotational speed of 420 rpm to 520 rpm and, at a volume flow of plasma gas mixture of 30 l/min to 70 l/min, coating powder is injected at a supply rate of 90 g/min to 130 g/min.

The coating system includes an anti-corrosion coating including a fluorescent pigment to enhance inspection of the applied coating. The system also includes a robotic crawler for traversing inside the pipe and carrying a coating apparatus and inspection apparatus respectively configured to apply the coating on the weld joints and facilitate inspection of the wet coating. The coating apparatus comprises a spraying nozzle provided on a forward end of the robotic crawler and configured to spray coating onto on the surrounding circumferential pipe surface. The inspection apparatus includes an ultraviolet radiation emitter for activating the fluorescent pigment in the coating and a camera for providing a live image feed of the coated weld joint area to an operator computing station for inspection of the applied coating.
