Superhydrophobic and dust mitigating coatings
A method is provided to form a dust mitigation coating that also mitigates or repels water, ice, and other liquids. Techniques to coat the surfaces of equipment and items with these dust, liquid, and ice mitigation coatings, minimize or eliminate mission problems caused by dust, liquid, or ice accumulation, particularly in outer space or on another planetary body or moon. Further, the dust mitigation coatings exhibit a Lotus-like effect, making the coated surfaces ultra-hydrophobic. The present invention is also directed to techniques for improving the functioning of terrestrial-based equipment and systems where dust, liquid, or ice accumulation is a problem, such as in hospitals and other health contexts, to prevent contamination.
METAL SURFACE TREATMENT
The instant invention concerns the use of at least one polymer P obtained by radical copolymerization of a mixture of (i) acrylic acid; (ii) methacrylic acid; and (iii) at least one 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate phosphate for treating a metallic surface intended to be coated by a paint, a varnish or an adhesive. The invention also concerns methods of coatings making use of this polymer P, compositions comprising the polymer P and useful for these methods, and the obtained coated materials.
POLYMERS FOR METAL SURFACE TREATMENT
The instant invention concerns polymers obtained by radical copolymerization of a mixture of (1) acrylic acid; (2) methacrylic acid; and (3) at least one allylcatechol selected from 4-allylbenzene-1,2-diol, 3-allylbenzene-1,2-diol and mixtures thereof. The polymers are especially useful for treating a metallic surface intended to be coated by a paint, a varnish or an adhesive. The invention also concerns methods of coatings making use of this polymer P, compositions comprising the polymer P and useful for these methods, and the obtained coated materials.

A corrosion resistant wheel including a body having an outer surface and an inner surface, and a mounting plate having a front surface and a rear surface, wherein the body is adapted for securement to a vehicle and/or trailer, a primary anticorrosion layer associated with at least one of the inner and outer surfaces of the wheel body and/or at least one of the front and rear surfaces of the mounting plate, an optional secondary layer associated with the primary anticorrosion layer, and a tertiary layer associated with the secondary layer.
Reaction products of catechol compounds and functionalized co-reactant compounds for metal pretreatment applications
An aqueous, acidic, anti-corrosion conversion coating composition (in particular, an aqueous, acidic Group IV metal-containing anti-corrosion conversion coating composition) for metal substrates comprising as an additive a catechol compound and/or the reaction products of at least one catechol compound and at least one co-reactant compound having one or more functional groups reactive with the at least one catechol compound, desirably the reaction product of a catechol and an polyamine (e.g., a polyethyleneimine), that enhances the anti-corrosion effects of the conversion coating composition; methods of making and applying the conversion coating compositions and coated metal substrates. The catechol-containing conversion coating composition can be applied to metal substrate surfaces at temperatures as low as below 40° C. and with exposure times of 5 minutes or less. The catechol compound or reaction product thereof can become incorporated into the conversion coating formed on the metal substrate.
