Systems and methods for joining components by riveting
A riveting system, for use in mechanically linking adjacent workpieces, including a rivet having a height greater than a sum of thicknesses, measured along a line of riveting, of the workpieces being linked, so that the rivet can pass fully through the workpieces. The system also includes a riveting die, which may be a separate product. The die includes a protrusion extending from a peak toward a transition point; and a trough having a trough surface. The trough surface includes a trough inner wall, extending from the transition point to a trough bottom, and a trough outer wall, extending from the trough bottom to a trough outer edge. The technology also includes computerized systems for comparing a load-displacement profile of riveting to a pre-set profile to determine whether the riveting was performed properly.
Method and device for monitoring and/or controlling a flow-drilling and thread-forming process
A method and device are provided for simplifying a flow-drill screwing process. Based on work performed during the process, a process variable E is formed. This variable is compared to analogously formed comparison values in order to be able to determine the proper or faulty running of the process.
Fastener insertion gun for installing fasteners in vehicle structures
A system and method for drilling a hole in a vehicle structure and installing a fastener in the hole. A drill plate having openings and associated machine-readable elements is positioned on the structure. A drill gun is positioned in a particular opening and reads hole information from the associated element, and a computer determines whether the drill gun is properly set-up to drill the hole. A fastener insertion gun is positioned in the particular opening and reads fastener information from the element, and the computer determines whether the hole has been drilled and, if so, whether the fastener insertion gun is properly set-up to insert the fastener. A fastener delivery subsystem stores, tracks, and delivers fasteners to the fastener insertion gun. A system computer monitors the drilling of every hole, the insertion of every fastener, and the overall operation of the fastener delivery subsystem.
Data display method of test instrument for rivet nut setting tool
A data display method of a test instrument for a rivet nut setting tool is disclosed. When the rivet nut setting tool is operated, a value of a pull force detected by the pull-force detector is transmitted to the first display area through a circuit module, and a first display area displays variation of the value of the detected pull force in waveform, and the first display area also displays an upper-limit waveform value, a waveform data unit, a current value and a historical maximum value; when the rivet nut setting tool is operated continuously, the first display area displays a continuous waveform, and the second display area displays historical data and average values of maximum pull force values.
Joining tool for joining a deformable element to a workpiece
A power tool for joining a deformable element having a threaded shaft to a workpiece. The joining tool comprising a threaded dowel adapted to receive the threaded shaft and rotatably within the housing. A nose is arranged around the threaded dowel, and the dowel is slidably movable relative to the nose. A motor drives a drive train to rotate the threaded dowel. A hydraulic system drives another drive train to move the threaded shaft and compress the deformable element. The joining tool includes a sliding unit. The nose is attachable to the sliding unit, and in an attached position the nose is slidably connected to the housing so that the hydraulic system may move the nose axially to compress the deformable element.
PULLEY RIVET FOR INSTALLATION OF PULLEYS FOR WINDOW REGULATOR SYSTEMS
A component for a window regulator system of a vehicle closure panel including: a rail having a rail aperture extending between a first side of the rail and a second side opposite the first side, the rail aperture having a retaining surface associated with the rail aperture; a pulley for mounting adjacent to the first side, the pulley having a pulley aperture with a pulley surface opposite the first side; a pulley rivet having a rivet body including a retaining lip for engaging with the pulley surface and a retainer portion for engaging with the retaining surface, the rivet body configured for receipt in both the pulley aperture and the rail aperture when installed, the rivet body having a hole for receiving a fastener for fastening the rail to a panel via the pulley rivet; wherein, when installed, the rivet body is positioned within the pulley aperture and within the rail aperture, such that engagement between the retaining lip and the pulley surface inhibits separation of the pulley from the rail while engagement of the retainer portion with the retaining surface inhibits separation of the pulley rivet from the rail aperture.
Method for crimping a ring on an attachment rod using an automaton
A method for crimping and a crimping tool, such as an automaton, to crimp a ring on an attachment rod extending along an axis of the attachment rod from a panel. The tool involves moving a movement clip of the automaton to grip the ring so that the attachment rod is introduced into the ring and moving a crimping nose of the automaton so as to prevent the removal of the ring from the attachment rod. Once crimped, the ring is released and the crimping nose is moved so as to ready the crimping tool for subsequent crimping of rings on attachment rods.
Process monitoring for high-speed joining
A process monitoring method for a joining operation of a joining element at a speed of at least 5 m/s, in particular placing a bolt at least 10 m/s into at least one component with the aid of a placing device which has the following features: A plunger for placing the joining element, a buffer which limits a maximum deflection of the plunger in the joining direction, and a distance measurement with which the deflection of the plunger can be detected, wherein the process monitoring comprises the following steps: Detecting the travel of the plunger during the joining operation as a function of time in the form of a distance-time curve, detecting a placement of the plunger on the buffer, evaluating the distance-time curve such that, in the presence of at least one maximum followed by at least one minimum in the distance-time curve and without the plunger contacting the buffer, a joint connection is judged to be OK.
Method for Automated Installation of Semi-Tubular Fastener Rivets
A method for automated installation of a semi-tubular fastener rivet is provided. The method includes controlling a numerical control drilling and riveting machine having an upper head and a lower head, to control movement of a lower pressure bushing, to apply a clamping force to hold a workpiece against an upper pressure bushing. The method includes controlling an upper drill spindle on the upper head, to drill a rivet-receiving hole from an upper side of the workpiece and to countersink the rivet-receiving hole. The method includes controlling a lower drill spindle on the lower head, to countersink the rivet-receiving hole from a lower side of the workpiece. The method includes controlling movement of an upper anvil from a retracted position to an installation position, and controlling movement of a lower anvil, to apply an upset force to a tail portion of the semi-tubular fastener rivet installed in the rivet-receiving hole.
Regulator for a power tool
A regulator for a power tool for tightening a fastener in order to unite two or more pieces into a joint. The regulator regulates the power tool when tightening the fastener such that the fastener is tightened to a predetermined target. The regulator calculates an output signal to the power tool, which output signal is based on the product of the torque exerted by the power tool on the fastener and the angle for turning the fastener about its axis. The output signal is used for tightening the fastener to the predetermined target. The regulator is also applicable to a power tool for a rivet joint.
