Apparatus and methods for filtering metals
An apparatus and method for filtering molten metal (M), such as aluminum or an aluminum alloy includes at least one ceramic foam filter or any other type of filtration media such as porous tube or alumina balls disposed in a receptacle (12) for the molten metal (M). A vibrator vibrates at least one of the filter, the receptacle (12) or the metal and may be used to induce priming, filtering and/or drainage of the filter. The vibrator may be retrofitted to an existing filter system and may be adjustable in frequency and amplitude. The vibration may be continuous over a given period or produced in a single shock.

The inspection cup for inspecting an impurity in molten metal for die casting according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure is configured to detect an impurity contained in the molten aluminum and includes a cup body having a molten metal accommodation portion capable of accommodating a predetermined amount of molten aluminum, and the molten metal accommodation portion is shaped such that a cross-sectional area thereof gradually decreases from an upper end toward a lower end.
PROCESS TO MAKE A CERAMIC FILTER FOR METAL CASTING
A ceramic foam filter system includes a filter body having multiple tortuous path channels through the filter body to filter a molten liquid. A filter holder configuration defining a canister in a runner passage receives the filter body. An upstream end of the filter body receives the molten liquid having multiple inclusions. A predominant portion of the inclusions are larger than the multiple tortuous path channels and are trapped against the upstream end of the filter body. The multiple tortuous path channels are sized to trap a predominant portion of multiple oxides within the molten liquid as trapped oxides within the filter body. A filtered molten material having the multiple inclusions and the multiple oxides removed is directed from the multiple tortuous path channels as a discharge flow to exit at a downstream end of the filter body.
PROCESS TO MAKE AND A CERAMIC FILTER FOR METAL CASTING
A method to manufacture a ceramic foam filter includes: sintering a filter body to a temperature greater than a molten metal to be filtered through the body; creating multiple tortuous path channels extending through the filter body individually having a repeated and controlled passage geometry creating a continuously changing diameter and area of a flow path through the multiple tortuous path channels causing localized increases and decreases in molten metal flow rate through the multiple tortuous path channels; and applying a mixture of at least one ceramic powder and at least one binder using additive manufacturing to shape the filter body including the multiple tortuous path channels.
MOLTEN METAL PURIFICATION DEVICE
A molten metal purification device for purifying molten metal flowing through a flow body having a flow path formed by a pair of opposed side walls and a bottom wall. The device includes internal and external members provided inside and outside the flow body, respectively. The internal member includes an electrode body provided inside the path made of a conductive member and has a pair of opposed electrodes provided in the path where current flows across the electrodes through the molten metal and a non-conductive filter. The external member is configured as a magnetic field device having an upper surface side magnetized to an N or S pole and disposed below the flow body. Lines of magnetic force coming out from the N pole or entering the S pole intersect with the current to generate Lorentz force for driving the molten metal along a flowing direction in the path.
Spiral-orifice ceramic filter for metal casting
A spiral-orifice ceramic filter for metal casting, including spiral channels and two drain openings, where the spiral channels are distributed in a ceramic substrate in a staggered manner. By adoption of the spiral channel structure, molten metal may rotate to generate a centrifugal force while flowing forwards so as to promote separation of inclusions. The spiral-orifice ceramic filter for metal casting includes the following components: 90-95 wt % of MgO, 4-8 wt % of SiO.sub.2 and 2-4 wt % of ZrO.sub.2. Therefore, the spiral-orifice ceramic filter for metal casting has high strength under normal temperature and optional thermal impact resistance under high temperature, and may tolerate the impact of molten metal at 1700° C. or higher without break. The ceramic substrate and the spiral channel are superficially coated with one layer of functional oxide prepared from CaO.2Al.sub.2O.sub.3, CaO.6Al.sub.2O.sub.3, Al.sub.2O.sub.3, TiO.sub.2, or Re.sub.2O.sub.3.
Methods for producing 2024 and 7075 aluminum alloys by recycling waste aircraft aluminum alloys
The present invention relates to techniques for producing 2024 and 7075 aluminum alloys by recycling waste aircraft aluminum alloys, which belong to technical fields for circular economy. The present invention develops techniques for obtaining the 2024 and 7075 aluminum alloys by subjecting waste aircraft aluminum alloys as raw materials to pretreatment, smelting, impurity removal, melt ingredient assay, ingredient adjustment, refining, and casting. Through utilizing the waste package aluminum alloys and the waste aluminum pop-top cans to adjust the ingredients, the waste aircraft aluminum alloys would be recycled at a lower cost without downgrading. The present invention has some advantages, such as low cost, and applicability for industrial production, as well as prominent economic benefit.
STEEL FOAM AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING STEEL FOAM
A method of producing a steel foam component includes providing a mold defining a cavity. The method also includes positioning an insert within the cavity of the mold. The insert can be configured to form a generally uniform pattern of pores within the steel foam component, and in some cases occupies at least 20% of the cavity. The method can further include pouring molten steel into the cavity, cooling the molten steel into the steel foam component, and removing the steel foam component and the insert from the mold. Steel components having internal shapes corresponding to the insert(s) are also provided.
