Continuous casting method for steel and reduction roll for continuous casting

A continuous casting method for steel in which a slab at a position where the center solid phase rate of the slab is 0.8 or more and including after complete solidification is reduced by a reduction roll. The roll outer peripheral shape in a cross-section including a roll rotation axis convex shape overhanging outward in a region including a width-direction center position of the slab. The convex shape is a shape that does not have corner portions in a convex shape defining range with a total length of 0.80×W on both sides in the roll width direction from the width-direction center position. A reduction roll radius at the width-direction center position is greater by 0.005×t or more than a reduction roll radius at both ends of the convex shape defining range.

BEARING BOX FOR ROTATING ROLL THAT DELIVERS HIGH-TEMPERATURE SUBSTANCE(S)

A bearing box for a rotating roll that delivers a high-temperature substance. The bearing box includes a bearing portion and a seal portion provided adjacent to the bearing portion and includes a first cooling liquid passage that is formed on the outer peripheral side of the bearing portion and through which a cooling liquid passes, and a second cooling liquid passage that is formed on the radially inner side relative to the first cooling liquid passage and on the outer peripheral side of the seal portion, the second cooling liquid passage communicating with the first cooling liquid passage to cause the cooling liquid to pass therethrough.

Described herein are techniques for improving the grain structure of a metal product by applying ultrasonic energy to a continuously cast metal product at a position downstream from the casting region and allowing the ultrasonic energy to propagate through the metal product to the solidification region. At the solidification region, the ultrasonic energy can interact with the growing metal grains, such as to deagglomerate and disperse nucleating particles and to disrupt and fragment dendrites as they grow, which can promote additional nucleation and result in smaller grain sizes.

Roller stand having elastically mounted supporting rollers

A roller stand for a continuous billet casting machine, having a carrying frame for mounting at least one lower supporting roller and at least two lateral supporting rollers. The lateral supporting rollers are mounted elastically on the carrying frame by means of at least one passive elastic element, and have an amount of elasticity at least in a direction perpendicular to the axes of rotation of the lateral supporting rollers. A method for determining the position and/or the shape of a billet is provided. During passage through at least one roller stand, alterations in the position at least of the lateral supporting rollers relative to a reference are detected and, on the basis of this information, the shape of the billet and/or the position of the billet in relation to the center line of the billet-guide channel are/is determined.

Device for coupling a coolant supply to a roll

A device is disclosed for coupling a coolant supply and/or coolant drainage to a roll, especially in a continuous casting installation, wherein the roll includes a journal, which is mounted rotatably in a bearing block, and a lateral recess, extending in the axial direction, and at least one roll cooling channel, through which a coolant can pass. The device includes at least one coolant channel, which can be brought into fluidic connection with the roll cooling channel on the journal side; and a sealing unit for sealing the fluidic connection between the coolant channel and the roll cooling channel, including an inner module and an outer module. The inner module includes a hollow cylindrical element, which can be inserted into the lateral recess of the journal, and which, when viewed in the axial direction, has no flange on the outer side of the journal.

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING ROUND STEEL BILLET

A method of manufacturing a round steel billet by continuous casting includes a local cooling step where inhomogeneous forced cooling is applied to a cast product during the continuous casting, and a rolling reduction step where rolling reduction is applied to the cast product in the opposite directions of the polar opposites by reduction rolls in the course from the completion of solidification to the completion of the recuperation of the cast product so that rolling reduction r which is a reduction ratio of a distance between middle points of the polar opposites is set to a value exceeding 0% and 5% or less.

CONTINUOUS STEEL CASTING METHOD

Conditions for soft reduction are determined in a method of continuous casting in accordance with a method utilizing the thickness of a slab strand to prevent center segregation from occurring in the strand due to an insufficient pressing rate or internal cracks from occurring in the strand due to an excessively high pressing rate.

Method for the continuous casting of a metal strand in a continuous casting installation and a continuous casting installation

A method for the continuous casting of a metal strand in a continuous casting installation, in which, in a casting machine, the metal formed into a slab, with a still molten core, is brought out vertically from a mold, wherein, downstream of the mold in the conveying direction, the slab is made to move along a casting bow, through a number of casting bow segments, and is deflected into the horizontal, wherein each casting bow segment has a number of segment rollers, which are designed for coming into contact with the surface of the slab. In the region before the end of the casting machine, a number of segment rollers are lifted off from the surface of the slab, or are not installed in receptacles provided, and so the contact between the slab and the segment roller is interrupted or there is no contact.
