The present disclosure relates to a rhomboid-shaped double-sided turning insert having a convex cutting corner flanked by two flank faces, wherein the insert comprises, on each side: a rhomboid-shaped rake face opposite the face of the opposite side; a lateral cutting corner surface arranged adjoining and between the two flank faces; two flanking edges, each formed between a respective flank face and a rhomboid side of the rake face; a cutting edge formed by a straight primary cutting edge and a straight secondary cutting edge, formed between the lateral cutting corner surface and the rake face, arranged adjoining and between the two flanking edges, wherein the primary cutting edge is longer than the secondary cutting edge; and a chip-deflecting surface which is recessed and arranged inwardly of said cutting edge; wherein a lateral cutting corner surface of the insert, formed by the lateral cutting corner surfaces of a first and a second side, extends between the first side and second side cutting edges, wherein the primary cutting edge and secondary cutting edge are in reversed positions between the first and second sides.

A cutting insert, for producing a V-shaped profile in a workpiece by radial piercing relative to an axis of rotation of the workpiece, includes a reference plane and a V-shaped insertion region. The V-shaped insertion region includes, inter alia, two cutting edges in the reference plane, a rake face and a plurality of elongated chip-guiding depressions in the rake face, each extending in parallel with a depression axis of extent or extension axis in the reference plane, providing improved chip formation compared to the prior art. The depression axes of extent or extension axes each extend at a recess chip-guiding angle in a region of 0° to 45°. A side cutting edge is present at an intersection ridge between a polygonal face and an outer peripheral face. The outer peripheral face includes a rake face of the cutting edge and a flank of an end cutting edge of another cutting edge different from the side cutting edge. The flank has a positive slope angle in opposition to a negative side rake angle of the side cutting edge. A breaker groove extending in a front-rear direction is formed in the rake face and cuts into the flank, in such a manner as to divide the rake face.

A cutting insert for a tool for machining a workpiece. The cutting insert comprises a rake face with a chip shaping geometry which is particularly suitable for machining titanium and titanium alloys. The chip shaping geometry is designed in such a way that the chip lifted from the workpiece is deformed comparatively strongly about its longitudinal axis. The chip shaping geometry is arranged at least in a rear area of the rake face, which is laterally bounded by a first concavely curved portion and a second concavely curved portion of the minor cutting edges of the cutting insert. The chip shaping geometry projects upwardly beyond a cutting plane in which the main cutting edge of the cutting insert and two rectilinear portions of the two minor cutting edges are arranged and comprises at least two elevations so that the rake face in the rear area in a further cross-section parallel to the main cutting edge comprises two high points and an intermediate second low point which has an equal third distance from the first concavely curved portion and the second concavely curved portion. A rake angle along the main cutting edge varies such that the rake angle γ1 at a center of the main cutting edge, which has an equal second distance from a first end and a second end of the main cutting edge, is greater than the rake angle in the area of the first and/or second ends.

Cutting insert

The edge portion includes an upper surface, a side surface, and a land surface. The side surface has a front side surface and a pair of lateral side surfaces. An intersection between the land surface and the front side surface forms a front cutting edge. An intersection between the land surface and each of the pair of lateral side surfaces form a corresponding one of a pair of lateral cutting edges. The edge portion contains 80 vol % or more of diamond. A chip breaker recess is provided between the upper surface and the land surface. The surfaces forming the chip breaker recess include a rake face and a breaker wall surface. The upper surface has a front edge portion opposite to the front cutting edge from the chip breaker recess. A pair of protruding portions are provided to extend from the front edge portion toward the front cutting edge.
