Indexable parting blade with circuitous coolant channels
An indexable parting blade has opposite blade first and second sides, a blade peripheral edge, a central index axis, and at least first, second and third insert pockets located along the blade peripheral edge. The parting blade also has first, second and third coolant channels, each forming a coolant path from a corresponding inlet to a corresponding one of the insert pockets. Each coolant channel includes a rake outlet opening out to a rake side of its corresponding insert pocket and a relief outlet opening out to a relief side of that same insert pocket. The inlet corresponding to a given coolant channel is located further from that coolant channel's insert pocket than at least one of (a) the inlet corresponding to a different coolant channel, and (b) the central index axis.
Method of machining a groove
A method for cutting a groove of a predetermined groove width in a work piece, including the steps of providing a metallic work piece having a peripheral surface; providing a grooving tool including a blade portion having a constant or substantially constant blade width, and an insert having a maximum insert width defined by a main cutting edge; selecting the insert width to be greater than the blade width; connecting the grooving tool to a machine interface of a machine tool; rotating the work piece about a rotational axis thereof in a rotational direction; and cutting a groove in the work piece by moving the tool in a feed direction towards the rotational axis of the work piece, such that the groove width is equal to or substantially equal to the insert width and such that a tangential cutting force is directed towards or substantially towards the machine interface.
CUTTING TOOL HOLDER WITH IMPROVED DAMPENING EFFECT
Cutting tool holders are disclosed that include vibration dampening elements. The vibration dampening elements may extend parallel to a longitudinal plane of the cutting tool holder. The vibration dampening elements allow the cutting tool holders to have a smaller width while still providing higher grooving depth.
TOOL HOLDER WITH UPPER AND LOWER JAWS DEFINING AN INSERT RECEIVING POCKET AND CUTTING TOOL
A tool holder having a holder body, an opening of the holder body having opposing upper and lower jaws respectively defining upper and lower pocket surfaces of an insert receiving pocket, and a resilience slot extending away from the insert receiving pocket. A first plane intersects the upper and lower pocket surfaces, and an actuating member extends from the upper jaw along a first axis in a downward direction and traverses the resilience slot. The lower jaw includes an access bore, and a locking member occupies the access bore and engages a locking portion of the actuating member. The upper jaw has a top jaw surface facing in an upward direction, and the first axis intersects the top jaw surface. A cutting tool is configured with the tool holder and a cutting insert removably secured in the insert receiving pocket.
Double-ended cutting insert having mounting projection with insert upper abutment and insert stopper surfaces
A cutting tool includes a two-way indexable cutting insert clamped in a transversely oriented insert receiving pocket of an insert holder. The insert holder includes a forwardly located insert mounting portion that includes upper and lower jaws which together define the insert receiving pocket having a pocket front opening. The lower jaw includes a pocket lower clamping surface. The upper jaw includes a pocket upper clamping surface which faces mutually towards the pocket lower clamping surface and a pocket stopper surface facing generally towards the pocket front opening. The pocket stopper surface is closer to the pocket lower clamping surface and further from the pocket front opening, than the pocket upper clamping surface. The pocket stopper surface is further from the pocket rear opening than the pocket lower clamping surface.
TOOL ASSEMBLY CONFIGURED FOR SWISS MACHINING
A grooving or part-off tool assembly for Swiss-style machining includes a holder. The holder includes a resilient normally-closed holder clamp. In a preferred embodiment the holder clamp biases a blade holding a cutting insert against a pocket side abutment surface of a holder pocket.
Cutting Tool and Cutting Insert Having a Deep Blind Opening
A non-indexable, one-sided cutting insert includes opposite insert side surfaces which define an insert width therebetween, opposite insert front and rear surfaces which extend between the insert side surfaces and define an insert depth therebetween and opposite insert top and bottom surfaces which extend between the insert side surfaces and the insert front and rear surfaces. The insert top and bottom surfaces define an insert height therebetween. The insert further includes a main cutting edge formed at an intersection between the insert top and front surfaces. A maximum value of the insert width is smaller than minimum value of the insert height, and a minimum value of the insert depth. The insert includes a deep opening which opens out only to the insert bottom surface and defines an opening depth. A depth ratio defined between the opening depth and the insert height is greater than 0.3.
PARTING BLADE AND GROOVING AND PARTING-OFF TOOL
A parting blade includes an internal cooling agent supply and has two substantially plane-parallel lateral faces and a continuous transversal bore connected to a cooling agent channel that runs parallel to the lateral faces in the interior of the parting blade. In order to provide a parting blade that has no projection on one side, a stopper is provided having two substantially parallel end faces and a circumferential face that connects the end faces. The stopper can be inserted into the transversal bore of the parting blade, thereby sealing the transversal bore relative to at least one lateral face of the parting blade. The stopper terminates without protruding over the sealed lateral face, flush with the lateral face. The stopper has an opening on both the end face and the circumferential face. The openings are connected to one another in the interior of the stopper to connect the cooling agent channel to a cooling agent source.
CUTTING TOOL
Tool for machining a workpiece having a cutting insert with at least one cutting edge. Moreover, the tool has a tool holder, which extends along a holder longitudinal axis and has at a workpiece-side end a cutting insert receptacle for receiving the cutting insert, the cutting insert receptacle having an upper clamping finger and a lower clamping jaw. Furthermore, the tool has a wedge-shaped clamping element, which is fastenable in the cutting insert receptacle for wedging the cutting insert in the tool holder. In addition, the tool comprises a fastening element for fastening the clamping element in the cutting insert receptacle and for wedging the cutting insert in the tool holder.
