A rotating circular disc attaches to a rotary motion abrading tool and converts the rotary motion to a random orbital motion. The disc has a center and has an axis of rotation that is off center and that forms a center of gravity. One embodiment of the disc is a backing plate. A second embodiment of the disc is a polishing pad. A third embodiment of the disc is a combination of a backing plate and a polishing pad.

QUARTER SHEET SANDER

An orbital sander includes a housing, a drive unit within the housing having an electric motor defining a rotational axis, and a drive shaft coupled for co-rotation with the motor about the rotational axis having a fan rotatably coupled to the lower portion of the drive shaft. The fan includes a main body having a plurality of fan blades, an upper counterweight located on one side of the main body and a lower counterweight located on an opposite side of the main body for balancing the operation of the fan, and an interruption region located opposite the lower counterweight with fan blades located within the interruption region having a reduced mass. The orbital sander further includes a baseplate for selectively mounting a sanding sheet that is coupled to the lower portion of the drive shaft for orbital rotation about the rotational axis.

QUARTER SHEET SANDER

An orbital sander includes a housing, a drive unit within the housing having an electric motor defining a rotational axis, and a drive shaft coupled for co-rotation with the motor about the rotational axis having a fan rotatably coupled to the lower portion of the drive shaft. The fan includes a main body having a plurality of fan blades, an upper counterweight located on one side of the main body and a lower counterweight located on an opposite side of the main body for balancing the operation of the fan, and an interruption region located opposite the lower counterweight with fan blades located within the interruption region having a reduced mass. The orbital sander further includes a baseplate for selectively mounting a sanding sheet that is coupled to the lower portion of the drive shaft for orbital rotation about the rotational axis.

The sleeve (220) includes one open end and another closed end extended outward to form an eccentric axial shaft (221) penetrating through the axial hole (211). A central axis of the eccentric axial shaft (211) is parallel with a central axis of the sleeve (220) and spaced apart therefrom. The power axial shaft (210) penetrates through the rotor (110), and the sleeve (220) is outside the motor main body (100). The assembly is facilitated by assembling the power axial shaft (210) and the sleeve (220) onto the motor main body (100) sequentially.
