A milling cutter having a shank and a cutting head attached to the shank. The cutting head has a plurality of helical teeth, each tooth including a cutting tip, a leading face and a rear face. A flute is defined between the leading face of a trailing tooth, and a rear face of an immediately preceding tooth. A gully of the flute is generally W-shaped in cross section to provide effective chip evacuation. A method for manufacturing the milling cutter with the W-shaped gully of the flute using a split path grinding process is also disclosed.

LINER SYSTEM FOR A MILL SHELL

A liner system for installation in a rotatable mill shell having an inner side and an opposed outer side, the liner system including one or more lifter bars. The lifter bar includes a body, a channel plate secured to the body and defining a channel axis, including one or more lateral extensions extending transversely from the central portion in relation to the channel axis, and one or more insert elements positioned between the lateral extension and the inner side of the mill shell, for resisting outward movement of the lateral extension toward the inner side. The liner system also includes one or more attachment assemblies, each including a bolt, for securing the lifter bar to the mill shell. The insert elements are configured to maintain the bolt in a predetermined position in which an axis of the bolt is aligned with the channel axis.

Cutting tool with enhanced chip evacuation capability and method of making same

A milling cutter includes a shank and a cutting head attached to the shank.

Surface-coated cutting tool and method for manufacturing the same

A surface-coated cutting tool includes a base material and a coating formed on the base material. The base material is a cemented carbide or a cermet. A surface of the base material includes a rake face, a flank face, and a cutting edge face connecting the rake face to the flank face. The base material has an oxygen concentration of less than or equal to 1 at. % at a depth position of 0.4 μm from the cutting edge face. The coating includes a hard layer. A topmost layer in the hard layer has a compressive stress of more than or equal to 1.5 GPa in absolute value.

Grinding and/or erosion machine

Grinding and/or erosion machine (10) for machining a chip-cutting rotary tool including a tool body (18) and several cutting plates (19) per existing pitch (TR). A control device (25) activates an axis arrangement (11) to move a machine tool (12) and the rotary tool (13) to be machined relative to each other. An interface device (26) triggers a data import function for reading-in the position data of the cutting plates (19). The position data (P) describe at least one angular value (1, 2), a first length value (z1) and a second length value (z2). The control device (25) imports the position data (P) in chaotic order and allocates the position data (P) of each cutting plate (19) in the imported machine data set (M) to respectively one separate virtual pitch (TV), independent of whether the cutting plates (19) belong to a common pitch of the rotary tool (13).

Rotary cutting tool with hone edges

A rotary cutting tool includes a shaft having and outer surface and having a longitudinal axis, a plurality of helical flutes formed in the shaft about the longitudinal axis, a plurality of helical cutting edges formed at an interface with the outer surface and a respective helical flute about the longitudinal axis, and a plurality of end cutting edges located on an axial distal end of a cutting portion of the shaft, the end cutting edges being contiguous with a corresponding one of the plurality of helical cutting edges and forming a corner in the transition between each of the end cutting edges and the corresponding one of the plurality of helical cutting edges.
