Tool with charge advance mechanism
A powder actuated fastening tool including a charge advance apparatus for advancing a powder charge strip relative to a barrel of the tool, wherein the charge advance apparatus includes a rotatable ratchet having teeth for engaging receptacles formed in the powder charge strip, and a charge advance member coupled to a trigger of the tool, wherein the charge advance member acts on the rotatable ratchet to rotate the ratchet in response to actuation and/or release of the trigger, such that the rotation of the ratchet causes advance of the powder charge strip relative to the barrel.

Apparatus for installing explosively driven fasteners
For a spring tool for actuating explosive fasteners to operate at its maximum potential the firing pin guide should be pushed securely against the rear of the fastener and the tip of the fastener should be pushed securely against the substrate. To achieve this, the action of the operator pushing the tool forward to actuate the tool moves the trigger body forward while compressing the firing spring until the trigger body travels the exact distance needed to release the trigger ball. A step or backstop insert is added to the inside of the trigger body such that at the exact distance where the trigger ball is released, the step contacts the rear of the firing pin guide so that all internal components of the tool to form a solid (contacting) stack, from the tip of the fastener to the end cap of the tool.

APPARATUS FOR INSTALLING EXPLOSIVELY DRIVEN FASTENERS
A spring tool for actuating explosive fasteners for driving nails into a substrate is disclosed. For the tool to operate at its maximum potential the firing pin guide should be pushed securely against the rear of the fastener and the tip of the fastener should be pushed securely against the substrate. The action of the operator pushing the tool forward to actuate the tool moves the trigger body forward while compressing the firing spring until the trigger body travels the exact distance needed to release the trigger ball. A step or backstop insert is added to the inside of the trigger body. The step is designed such that at the exact distance where the trigger ball is released, the step contacts the rear of the firing pin guide. The firing pin guide cannot move backwards. The stop allows all internal components to form a solid (contacting) stack, from the tip of the pin assembly to the end cap, the forward pressure of the operator actuating the tool keeps the tip of the pin assembly pressed firmly against the substrate while the firing pin impacts the load.
FASTENER DRIVING DEVICE
A fastener driving device comprising a combustion chamber, a piston and a fastener channel. The piston is coupled to the combustion chamber and slidable within a sleeve such that combustion gas expansion in the combustion chamber causes the piston to slide from a first position to a second position. The fastener channel is configured to receive a fastener, wherein when moving from the first position to the second position the piston is configured to engage the fastener and drive it from the device. According to a first example the device further comprises a return chamber configured to receive gas from the sleeve via a first vent, and the device comprises a second vent coupled to the return chamber and configured to supply combustion gas from the combustion chamber to the return chamber. According to a second example the combustion chamber comprises a moveable housing portion, wherein combustion gas expansion in the combustion chamber acts on the moveable housing portion such that the moveable housing portion moves in a first direction to open the combustion chamber and exhaust combustion gases.
Stud miss indicator for fastener driving tool
A stud miss indicator system for a fastener driving tool includes at least one sensor generating at least one signal based on forces generated by a fastener driving operation, a software program configured for receiving the at least one signal, for evaluating the at least one signal as to a fastener being either improperly driven or properly driven, and the program generating at least one appropriate output signal reflective of the evaluation.
