A chopping tool for safely chopping food. The chopping tool includes a blade with a blade edge at a distal end, and a spine at a proximal end. The spine includes two lateral edges with a receptor positioned near each lateral edge. The chopping tool also includes two handles engaging the blade, each handle including a scabbard section for grabbing with fingers, a horizontal section extending from the scabbard section towards and engaging the receptor on the spine, and a vertical section protruding from the scabbard section towards the distal end of the blade. Each handle is configured to pivot about a point of contact between a bottom end of the vertical section and a cutting surface to move the blade edge downward towards the cutting surface and upward away from the cutting surface in an alternating fashion for chopping an article placed on the cutting surface.

The present invention provides a mandolin slicer adjustable for slicing item in variable thicknesses and variable shapes, wherein the adjustment is enabled by an actuator assembly, such as a ballpoint pen ratchet mechanism or a push-push latch mechanism provided on the mandolin slicer. The mandolin slicer of the present invention further comprises an indicating mechanism to clearly indicate the selected thickness and shape of the sliced item.

A knife assembly includes a knife blade having a stop and a receiver having a cavity for receiving a portion of the knife blade. In some implementations the receiver is secured to a glove, and in other implementations it is secured to a knife handle. The receiver includes a retainer biased toward a retaining configuration in which the retainer engages the stop to prevent the portion of the knife blade from being removed from the cavity. An opening in the receiver provides access to the retainer. The opening is positioned such that a force may be applied therethrough to overcome a bias of the retainer and adjust the retainer to a non-retaining configuration, allowing the portion of the knife blade to be manually removed from the cavity.
