PRE-CONSOLIDATED FINES LAYER FOR IMPROVED ENGINEERED WOOD PRODUCTS
An engineered wood based siding, cladding or panel with a pre-consolidated fines layer (PCF) applied to the top of the main strand matrix layers to minimize telegraphing and provide an improved surface appearance. The PCF is consolidated prior to application to the surface of the strand matrix or mat, and takes the place of a loose fines layer. The PCF prevents the loss of fines into the strand matrix, effectively keeping the fines at the surface so they can effectively and efficiently function to prevent or eliminate strand telegraphing, and provide a smooth finished surface for the product.
FINES INTERFACE LAYER FOR IMPROVED ENGINEERED WOOD PRODUCTS
An engineered wood based siding, cladding or panel with a fines interface layer between the main strand matrix layers and the fines layer to minimize telegraphing and provide an improved surface appearance. The fines interface layer is applied to the surface of the strand matrix or mat prior to application of the fines layer. The FIL sits between the strand matrix and the fines layer, and prevents the loss of fines into the strand matrix. The FIL thus keeps the fines at the surface so they can effectively and efficiently function to prevent or eliminate strand telegraphing, and provide a smooth finished surface for the product.
ENGINEERED WOOD ADHESIVES AND ENGINEERED WOOD THEREFROM
The present disclosure provides an engineered wood precursor mixture. The mixture includes a wood substrate(s) and a binder reaction mixture present in a range of from 3 to 25 parts per one hundred (100) parts of the dry weight of the wood substrate. The binder composition includes an aqueous portion. The aqueous portion includes a carbohydrate-containing component, including glucose, fructose, sucrose, or mixture thereof, in a range of from 2 wt % to 85 wt % based on a dry weight of the binder reaction mixture. The aqueous portion further includes 1 wt % to 33 wt % of a base based on a dry weight of the binder reaction mixture, wherein a pH of the aqueous portion is greater than 10. The binder composition further includes a partially non-dissolved polypeptide-containing component, in a range of from 20 wt % to 85 wt % based on the dry weight of the binder reaction mixture.
MICROSTRAND INTERFACE LAYER FOR IMPROVED ENGINEERED WOOD PRODUCTS
An engineered wood based siding, cladding or panel with a microstrand interface layer (MIL) applied to the top of the main strand matrix layers to minimize telegraphing, add rigidity and strength, and provide an improved surface appearance. The MIL comprises microstrands applied to the surface of the strand matrix or mat during production, prior to deposition of a fines layer. The MIL prevents the loss of fines into the strand matrix, and helps prevent or eliminate strand telegraphing.
Process for producing smooth strand-based siding or structural panels using secondary pressing
A process for producing a smooth-sided strand-based siding or wood structural panel using a secondary pressing process. The secondary pressing process is performed after the primary process completes pressing and consolidation of the substrate/board. The secondary process applies and cures the overlay after applying a water spray on the hot board immediately out of the primary process press, and before overlay application. The application of the water spray causes the surface of the board to swell and cure. A settling period follows to allow the top surface particles and strands to swell along with absorption and evaporation of the moisture. This is followed by surface sanding to remove the telegraphing and produce a smooth surface, which is then followed by lamination of the overlay(s). The process is completed by post-lamination treatment and coating of the board.
METHOD FOR SCAVENGING FREE FORMALDEHYDE USING MULTIFUNCTIONAL SCAVENGER FOR WOODEN COMPOSITE PRODUCTS WITH UREA-FORMALDEHYDE RESIN
The application describes a method of scavenging formaldehyde from a wooden composite comprising urea-formaldehyde or melamine urea-formaldehyde by providing a combination of formaldehyde scavengers in the face and core layers of the composite and further describes the composite produced with these scavengers.
METHOD FOR COATING A PLANAR WORKPIECE
The invention relates to a method for coating a planar workpiece. In order to provide a planar workpiece, which is produced from a workpiece having lignocellulose fibers and a proportion of more than 50 wt % binding agent and optionally filler, with improved performance characteristics, a method is provided having the following steps: providing the planar workpiece, which has an upper face and a lower face and a lateral surface, applying a coating, applying a decoration, optionally structuring the coating, at least on a portion of an upper face, a lower face, or a lateral surface, in each case, and optionally curing the coating.
Method of manufacturing moulded articles
A method of producing a moulded article comprising a thermoset polymer and particles of porous natural materials, such as wood materials, and uses thereof. The composite material has a continuous matrix of a hardened thermoset polymer and, distributed within the matrix, and the particles are at least partially encased by the thermoset polymer. The method comprises the steps of providing a mould with two opposite pressing surfaces, said pressing surfaces defining a space between them; feeding particles of porous natural materials into the space between the pressing surfaces; advancing the surfaces towards each other to compress the particles in said space; feeding unhardened thermoset resin in liquid form into the mould so as to fill at least said space between pressing surfaces while keeping the particles compressed between the pressing surfaces; and curing the thermoset resin in the mould to provide a moulded composite article.
PLANAR MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION THEREOF
The invention relates to a planar material, comprising lignocellulose fibers and binding agents. In order to provide a planar material that using fibers has reduced swelling, it is provided that the proportion of the binding agent has more than 50 wt % of the planar material. The invention also comprises a method for producing the planar material.
Production of Wood Particle Panels Resistant to Liquid Water Penetration
A method of can be used to make a wood composite material. The method includes forming a panel having wood fibers and additives, sanding a main surface of the panel, applying a polymer to the sanded main surface of the panel, and curing the polymer by irradiating the main surface of the panel. After the curing, the main surface has a solid discontinuous composite including a mixture of the wood fibers and cured polymer micro-islands.
