Resistance spot welding system and method
A resistance spot welding system can join two polymeric workpieces and includes a power supply. The power supply has a positive terminal and a negative terminal. The resistance spot welding system further includes a welding electrode assembly electrically connected to the power supply. The welding electrode assembly includes a housing, a first electrically conductive pin and a second electrically conductive pin. The first and second electrically conductive pins both protrude from the housing. The first electrically conductive pin is electrically connected to the positive terminal of the power supply, and the second electrically conductive pin is electrically connected to the negative terminal of the power supply. The second electrically conductive material is electrically insulated from the first electrically conductive pin. The first and second electrically conductive pins are at least partly made of a material having a hardness ranging between 50 HRC and 70 HRC.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR RESISTIVE IMPLANT WELDING OF REINFORCED THERMOSETTING RESIN PIPE JOINTS IN A SINGLE STEP PROCESS
A system for coupling pipes includes a first pipe having a tapered, spigot end; a second pipe having a tapered, spigot end; a coupler having two tapered socket ends adapted to internally receive the respective tapered, spigot ends of the first pipe and the second pipe; and a resistive element. The first pipe, the second pipe, and the coupler are made from a reinforced thermosetting resin (RTR). The resistive element includes a first layer and a second layer of thermoplastic material; and an electrically conducting resistive heating element with positive and negative terminals for connecting electrical power. The electrically conducting resistive heating element is sandwiched by the first layer and the second layer of thermoplastic material. The resistive element is disposed between an interior of the coupler and at least one of: an exterior of the first pipe and an exterior of the second pipe. Upon application of electrical power to the positive and negative terminals of the resistive element, the electrically conducting resistive heating element generates heat sufficient to melt the thermoplastic material such that, when the heat is removed, the hardened thermoplastic material seals the first pipe and/or the second pipe to the coupler.

Method for connecting plastic pipes and structure for connecting the same
Disclosed herein is a method and structure for connecting first (110) and second (120) plastic pipes to each other. The structure includes: an arch-shaped heating element (130) which is made of conductive plastic material and has an arch cross-sectional shape to cover the connection hole (111), with an opening (131) formed in a central portion of the arch-shaped heating element (130); an electricity supply assembly including a plurality of unit electricity supplies disposed around the opening (131) in different directions, each of the unit electricity supplies including a pair of electric connection terminals (140) disposed parallel to each other in the arch-shaped heating element (130) on opposite sides of the opening (131); and the second plastic pipe (120) provided on the end thereof with a cover (121) covering at least an outer surface of the arch-shaped heating element (130).
Method for connecting plastic pipes and structure for connecting the same
Disclosed herein is a method for connecting first (110) and second (120) plastic pipes. The method includes: placing an end of the second plastic pipe (120) on a target portion of the first plastic pipe (110) that is intended to form a connection hole (111), the end of the second plastic pipe (120) being provided with an arch-shaped heating element (130) made of conductive plastic material, electric connection terminals (140) disposed in the heating element (130) on opposite sides of the target portion, and a cover (121) covering at least an outer surface of the arch-shaped heating element (130); supplying power to the electric connection terminals (140) to heat the arch-shaped heating element (130) so that the second plastic pipe (120) is fused to the first plastic pipe (110); and forming the connection hole (111) in the cover (121), the arch-shaped heating element (130) and the side surface of the first plastic pipe (110), so that the first plastic pipe (110) and the second plastic pipe (120) communicate with each other.
Resistance spot welding method
A resistance spot welding method can be used to join polymeric and metallic workpieces together and includes the following steps: (a) placing an electrically conductive coating between a polymeric workpiece and a metallic workpiece, wherein the metallic workpiece has a textured surface facing the polymeric workpiece; (b) piercing the polymeric workpiece with first and second electrically conductive pins of a welding electrode assembly; (c) applying electrical energy to the first and second electrically conductive pins so that an electrical current flows through the first electrically conductive pin, the electrically conductive coating, and the second electrically conductive pin in order to at least partially melt the polymeric workpiece and the electrically conductive coating, thereby forming a weld pool; and (d) cooling the weld pool to form a solid weld nugget in order to establish a mechanical interface lock between the solid weld nugget and the textured surface.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR JOINING THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITE COMPONENTS
A method of blind welding thermoplastic composite components is provided that includes: providing a first thermoplastic composite having a FTPC bonding surface, a second thermoplastic composite having a STPC bonding surface, and an interface layer; disposing the interface layer between the FTPC STPC bonding surfaces; applying a normal force to the outer surface of the first thermoplastic composite component; applying an electromagnetic field to at least portions of the first and second thermoplastic composite components and the interface layer while the normal force is applied, and maintaining the application of the electromagnetic field until the first and second thermoplastic composite components and the interface layer create a weld pool; and removing the application of the electromagnetic field after the weld pool is created.
