Heat bonding of low energy surface substrates
A method comprising providing a polymeric substrate having a melting point of from about 130° C. to about 190° C., and locating a material layer onto the substrate, wherein the material layer comprises one or more polymeric materials that liquefy upon exposure to temperatures of at least about 100° C., to blend with a softened portion of the polymeric substrate. Upon exposure of one or more of the substrate and the material layer to a stimulus, the temperature is increased in a predetermined temperature zone of one or more of the substrate and material layer to cause blending of the one or more polymeric materials of the material layer with the softened portion of the polymeric substrate.

A method of constructing an inflatable fluidic actuator. The method includes coupling a first interface to a tube configuration of membrane material at a first tube end by coupling the first interface to the tube configuration at the first tube end by generating at least one of: a first bond between the membrane material and one or more first sidewalls of the first interface and a first external face bond between membrane material at the first tube end onto a first external face of the first interface.
Method for producing a frame component for a door frame structure of an aircraft, frame component, and door frame structure
A method for producing a frame component for a door frame structure of an aircraft. A connecting zone is generated on a first and a second assembly surface of a connecting component in each case by generating a surface texture on the assembly surfaces, wherein the connecting component is formed from a metal material. The assembly surfaces of the connecting component are placed against a door frame member and against an attachment member, wherein the door frame member and the attachment member are each formed from a fiber-reinforced thermoplastics material. Furthermore, the connecting component and the door frame member are welded, and the connecting component and the attachment member are welded. A frame component and a door frame structure are also described.
INDUCTION WELDING OF THERMOPLASTIC WITH METALLIC STRIPS
Methods and apparatus' for induction welding a first workpiece to a second workpiece at a welding region may include a metallic strip. The metallic strip may be a mesh. The properties of the metallic strip, such as, for example, pore size, thickness, and density, may be configured to conduct heat uniformly across the welding region and prevent eddy current formation across a workpiece. The metallic strip may be embedded in a workpiece or may be fixed to an induction welding tool that acts on the welding region during induction welding. A removable polymer tape may be disposed between a workpiece and a metallic strip fixed to an induction welding tool. The workpieces may be thermoplastic composite structures and thermoplastic composite stiffeners in aircraft structures.

USE OF REMOVABLE METAL FRAMES TO CONTROL INDUCTION WELDING OF THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITE EDGES
Systems and methods for induction welding a stiffener to a thermoplastic composite structure using a removeable metal mask to reduce excess heat along the edges of the stiffener generated from an electromagnetic field of an induction welding tool.
METAL-RESIN JOINT AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING METAL-RESIN JOINT
There are provided a metal-resin joint having high bonding strength and a manufacturing method thereof. A metal-resin joint 10 of the present disclosure includes an anchor portion 34 provided on a metal bonding surface 32 of a metal member 30. The anchor portion 34 has a pair of protrusion strips 35 and 35 protruding from the metal bonding surface 32 with a gap, a recessed groove 36 provided between the pair of protrusion strips 35 and 35, and a plurality of partitions 37 protruding from a groove bottom of the recessed groove 36. The plurality of partitions 37 are provided to be inclined toward one side Y1 in a direction in which the pair of protrusion strips 35 and 35 extend as going toward a distal end side, and to be side by side in a direction Y in which the pair of protrusion strips 35 and 35 extend.
Magnetic clamping heat sink assembly
A method of fixing a membrane to a surface is disclosed. The method includes affixing a metallic washer having a heat-activated adhesive layer on a surface; arranging a membrane on top of the surface and the heat-activated adhesive layer of the metallic washer; heating the metallic washer to activate the heat-activated adhesive layer such that the membrane is fixable to the metallic washer; positioning a magnetic clamping heat sink assembly on the membrane; magnetically clamping the magnetic clamping heat sink assembly to the metallic washer causing the magnetic clamping heat sink assembly to apply a force against the membrane when the magnetic clamping heat sink assembly sufficiently overlaps the metallic washer to form a secure bond; and cooling the metallic washer, the heat-activated adhesive layer, and the membrane by removing heat through the magnetic clamping heat sink assembly.
