Disclosed embodiments provide an electrofusion pipe coupler with mechanical support. The electrofusion pipe coupler comprises a coupler housing. A wire is configured and disposed within the housing. Electrodes are affixed to the coupler housing and in electrical contact with the wire. A threaded pattern is formed in an outer surface of the coupler housing. Gripping wedges are affixed to the coupler housing. Each gripping wedge extends from the coupler housing. A nut is attached to the coupler housing, engaging with the threaded pattern, and compressing the wedges against the connecting pipes. This serves to provide axial load transfer from the connecting pipes to the coupler housing via the wedges, thereby providing improved mechanical stability for such pipe assemblies.

The thread profile (140) is symmetrical, that is, the dimensions of the four components do not change throughout the length of the thread profile. The crest (152) has a flat profile and the root (172) has a rounded profile. When a shaft (120) is affixed to a joining shaft (110) using this optimized thread profile (140), the flat profiles of the crest (152) of the shaft (120) and corresponding rounded profiles of the root (172) of the joining shaft (110) create a gap to accommodate a substance such as an adhesive or a lubricant. An example nozzle includes at least one top surface, at least one bottom surface, and at least one nozzle lateral surface extending from or near the top surface to or near the bottom surface. The nozzle also includes at least one conduit surface defining a conduit. At least a portion of the conduit surface comprise at least one of polycrystalline diamond (“PCD”), polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (“PcBN”), or another suitable superhard material. The nozzle may be attached to a base to form a nozzle assembly. The nozzle may be attached to the base by at least one of deforming the base relative to the nozzle, threadedly attaching (either directly or indirectly) the nozzle to the base, or press-fitting a hollow hollowed-sleeve into a passageway defined by the base.

ULTRASONIC WELDING OF DISSIMILAR SHEET MATERIALS

A ultrasonic welding method of joining dissimilar-material workpieces, such as sheet materials, and the joined components formed thereby. The method includes applying ultrasonic energy to a thermoplastic piece to fill a hole of a dissimilar piece to form a weld point that is made up with polymer from the thermoplastic piece. In general, the geometry of the thermoplastic piece is not altered during the process. The dissimilar piece generally has a higher melting temperate and can be metal, thermoset polymers, or other thermoplastic material. The welded pieces can be arranged in a lap, laminate, or double lap configuration. In some embodiments, the hole of the dissimilar sheet material includes undercut features that improve the mechanical interlock between the dissimilar pieces. In some embodiments, the weld point has a mushroom cap to improve mechanical interlock.
