The invention relates to a method for top sealing a cardboard tray lined with a plastic foil. The method includes the steps of providing a cardboard tray having a bottom, upstanding walls arranged along the periphery of the bottom and a horizontal flange arranged along the upper edges of the upstanding walls, wherein the inside of the cardboard tray is lined with a plast foil, which plastic foil extends at least onto the horizontal flange; arranging the cardboard tray in a lower sealing tool member having a compressible support edge, wherein at least the horizontal flange is supported by the compressible support edge of the lower sealing tool member; arranging a cover foil over the cardboard tray arranged in the lower sealing tool member to cover the opening of the tray defined by the upper edges of the upstanding walls; and pressing a heated upper sealing tool member onto the lower sealing tool member, wherein the cover foil, the plastic foil liner and the horizontal flange are pressed together to seal the cover foil onto the plastic foil liner along the horizontal flange. The overlapping area of the plastic foil liner, the cover foil, and the compressible support edge extends at least partially outside of the area of the horizontal flange.

The container is of the type without cover or part that can be lost, including two distinct protrusions, projecting from the lateral wall in order to get a closed configuration, wherein the two protrusions are simultaneously: projecting opposite the bottom wall, from the annular end; and sealed to each other so as to form a sealing zone in order to hermetically close the opening. The container has two gripping portions, offset and distributed on the two protrusions and arranged outside of the sealing zone, which makes it quick to open. The container is recyclable, formed for example based on laminated paper or cardboard.

The box folding device includes a downward-pressing inner punch, a box folding outer mold and a pushing mechanism. The pushing mechanism conveys a bottom box to the cover sealing mechanism. The downward-pressing and attaching mechanism includes downward-pressing driving mechanism, a top-pressing plate, side-pressing plates and overturning cylinders. The side-pressing plates are hinged to side edges of the top-pressing plate through the driving of the overturning cylinders.

The method also includes transferring the partially formed container from the first mandrel to the second mandrel along a pair of guide rails extending between the first mandrel and the second mandrel, wrapping a second portion of the blank assembly about at least a first face of the second mandrel to form the container, wherein the first face of the second mandrel opposes the first face of the first mandrel with respect to a vertical direction, and ejecting the container from the second mandrel.
