A printing apparatus and a printing method for applying ink to a surface of a printing plate in a predetermined pattern and then transfer the ink applied in the shape of the pattern to a substrate. A scale is formed on the surface of the printing plate; the printing apparatus includes a plate cylinder on which the printing plate is provided, an image recording section that applies the ink to the surface of the printing plate in the predetermined pattern by an ink jet method, a reading unit that reads the scale and obtains position information data of the scale, a signal generation part that generates a signal based on the position information data obtained by the reading unit, and an adjustment part that adjusts an ejection timing of the ink in the image recording section on the basis of the signal obtained by the signal generation part.

APPARATUSES FOR PRODUCING OPTICAL EFFECT LAYERS

The apparatus and methods of the present disclosure relate to devices comprising spinning magnets driven by electric motors for use with printing or coating equipment. These devices and methods are for orienting magnetic or magnetisable pigment particles in an unhardened coating composition on a substrate. Specifically, these devices and methods are for producing optical effect layers. The apparatus comprises a holder, onto which is mounted a motor and a permanent magnet assembly. The motor is configured to spin the permanent magnet assembly. The holder is configured to be removably fixed to a base of a rotating magnetic cylinder (RMC) or a flatbed printing unit.

To apply a fluid to a substrate

Apparatus to apply a fluid to a substrate, the apparatus includes a first roller to rotate about an axis and apply a fluid to a first side of the substrate. The first roller includes an outlet to provide gas to the substrate to guide the movement of the substrate subsequent to the application of fluid to the substrate.

PRINTING SYSTEMS INCLUDING A RIGID PRINTING PATTERN AND AN INKING ROLL HAVING AN ELASTICALLY DEFORMABLE SURFACE

A printing system is provided. The printing system (300) includes a printing roll (310) having a rigid printing pattern (312) on a surface thereof configured to receive an ink material (330); and an inking roll (320) positioned adjacent to the printing roll. The inking roll includes an elastically deformable surface and a number of cells (324) disposed on the elastically deformable surface. A method of printing is also provided. The method includes (a) inking at least a portion of a rigid printing pattern (312) on a surface of a printing roll (310) by contacting the rigid printing pattern with an inking roll (320); and (b) contacting the rigid printing pattern with a substrate (350), transferring the ink material from the rigid printing pattern to a surface of the substrate. Printing systems and methods can achieve higher printing feature resolutions than typically achievable via flexographic printing.
