Image forming apparatus and method for performing preparation operations prior to image data receipt
An image forming apparatus includes a communication interface, an image forming unit, a plurality of sheet feeders, and a motor configured to selectively apply a drive force any of the sheet feeders. A transmission assembly switches transmission to any one of the sheet feeders. A controller receives preceding data from the communication interface, and, in response, controls the transmission assembly to initiate a switch of the transmission of the drive force to a standard sheet feeder among the plurality of the sheet feeders. In response to receipt control data received after the preceding data, the controller controls the image forming unit, motor, and transmission assembly to form an image on the sheet based on an image forming condition included in the control data.
RECORDING DEVICE
A recording device includes a sandwiching member coming into contact with a first guide shaft at a guide shaft-side contact surface and disposed between a carriage and the first guide shaft in a second direction and a cam member coming into contact with a first curved surface of the sandwiching member and configured to rotate about a first direction as a rotation axis relative to the carriage in a state of being engaged with the carriage. The cam member presses the first curved surface with the second curved surface slidably fitted to the first curved surface in the second direction and changes a position of the carriage relative to the sandwiching member in the second direction as a distance in the second direction of a position at which the second curved surface presses the first curved surface relative to the rotation axis changes along with rotation of the cam member.

Media level state indicator
Some examples include a media level state indicator of an image forming apparatus. The media level state indicator including a gear assembly of interconnected gears including a first gear, a second gear, and a cam fixedly disposed on the first gear, the second gear coupled to a media lift system and rotatable with a shaft of the media lift system, the first gear and the cam rotatably coupled to the second gear, a cam follower to selectively contact the cam, the cam follower moveable in response to contacting rotational movement of the cam, and a signal device coupled to the cam follower, the signal device having a first media level state and a second media level state, the signal device to move between the first media level state and the second media level state as the media lift system changes a position of a lift plate.

IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS
An image forming apparatus includes a housing, a movable body, a rack, a gear, a stepping motor, and a first action body. The movable body moves between a first position and a second position with respect to the housing. The first action body acts on the movable body. When an output shaft of the stepping motor rotates in a first rotation direction, the gear rotates to move the movable body in a first direction from the second position toward the first position. The first action body applies a pressing force toward a second direction opposite to the first direction to the movable body moving in the first direction beyond the first position. The pressing force is smaller than a force enough to rotate the output shaft of the stepping motor by one step in a second rotation direction opposite to the first rotation direction.
Pressure plate control
An example system includes a pressure plate actuating portion. The pressure plate actuating portion includes a cam gear coupled to a cam arm and a pressure plate arranged to be driven by the cam arm as the cam arm rotates with the cam gear through a pick-up cycle, the pressure plate being biased in a first direction toward the cam arm with a pressure plate spring. The example system also includes a pressure plate release control portion, the pressure plate release control portion being arranged to transfer potential energy from the pressure plate spring in a gradual manner.
