Display device

A display device includes an electronic paper display and a ground electrode. The electronic paper display is imageable by receiving charges on a charge receiving layer of the electronic paper display. The ground electrode is opposite to the charge receiving layer of the electronic paper display and exposed at an edge of the display device.

WRITING ELECTRONIC PAPER

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to systems and methods for writing on electronic paper (“e-paper”) and display platforms implemented with e-paper. In one aspect, a system for writing information to electronic paper includes a writing module and an erasing unit connected to the writing module. The erasing unit is configured to erase information stored in the electronic paper. The system also includes a writing unit connected to the writing module and is configured to write information to the electronic paper. Information is written to the electronic paper by orienting the writing module so that the electronic paper passes the erasing unit prior to passing the writing unit.

Systems and methods for writing on and using electronic paper

Example systems and methods for writing on electronic paper (“e-paper”) are described. In one example, a system for writing information on electronic paper includes a writing module comprising an array of electrodes. The writing module is configured to selectively operate one or more electrodes in the array of electrodes to write information on the electronic paper. The system also includes a compliant mechanism coupled to the writing module to establish contact between the writing module and the electronic paper.

MAGNETICALLY-RESPONSIVE DISPLAY INCLUDING A RECORDING LAYER CONFIGURED FOR LOCAL AND GLOBAL WRITE/ERASE

A recording layer is described that comprises a magnetizable material configured to store an image represented by magnetized regions of the magnetizable material. The magnetizable material may be brought into proximity with a magnetically responsive display layer, which may cause a change in an optical state of the display layer such that a facsimile of the image represented by the magnetized regions is produced within the display layer.

ION Writing Unit With Rate Control

An ion writing unit including an ion generator and an array of electrode nozzles aligned to receive and guide generated ions. The ion writing unit convertibly operates between at least a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, ions flow from the ion generator through selected nozzles at a first flow rate to cause image formation on an electrically biased passive e-paper spaced apart from the electrode holes. In the second mode, ions flow from the ion generator through at least some electrode nozzles at a second flow rate that does not cause image formation on the electrically biased passive e-paper.

ION Writing Unit with Air Flow

Display device

A display device includes a non e-paper portion to display a first pattern element and a passive e-paper display portion to display a second pattern element juxtaposed relative to the first pattern element.

E-paper imager

An imager includes an ion-emitting unit and a conveying structure to move a passive e-paper display medium in a first orientation along a travel path and to releasably support the display medium in spaced relation to receive airborne ions from the ion-emitting unit for imaging operations.
