A compact writing instrument includes a barrel and a cap. A majority of a length of the barrel and a writing element carried thereby may be received by the cap when the barrel and the cap are placed in a stored position, providing a compact stored arrangement. The cap may be secured to the barrel in a writing arrangement that extends a length of the writing instrument significantly; for example, to a conventional writing instrument length. Engagement features of the cap and barrel may include steep threads that enable the cap to be assembled with and disassembled from the barrel with one rotation (360°) or less. A clip on the cap may include a closed end that defines a receptacle, with the closed end and receptacle extending beyond a corresponding end of the cap. In addition, the closed end and receptacle may extend partially over the corresponding end of the cap.

WRITING INSTRUMENTS

A writing instrument according to the present disclosure comprises a main body, a writing tip and a cap, wherein the cap is designed to be secured tightly on the main body such that the writing tip is covered by the cap. The cap comprises of an inner core and an outer layer, wherein a material of the outer layer is softer compared to a material of the inner core. With that, it is possible to design an air-tight (or almost air-tight) fitting cap for a writing instrument. With the softer outer layer of the cap, it is achieved that a user chewing on the cap has a reduced risk of damaging his/her teeth. In addition, although a membrane within the cap may still be present, such membrane is no longer necessary. The membrane may be an additional barrier contributing further to the air-tight effect of the cap that is present within the cap.

Writing tool provided with refill

A writing tool includes a refill having an ink reservoir tube formed to be a straight cylinder whose wall thickness is less than 0.56 mm; and a writing tip or a relay member holding the writing tip attached to a first end of the ink reservoir tube, wherein the refill is detachably attached to a barrel, wherein in the refill, amounting strength between the writing tip or the relay member holding the writing tip and the ink reservoir tube is set higher than a mounting strength between the barrel and a connecting portion of the ink reservoir tube. There is provided a writing tool that can prevent the occurrence of a problem such as leakage of ink at a time of replacement of refills and perform replacement of refills smoothly.

A writing instrument includes a barrel and a cap capable of being assembled with and secured to the barrel. The barrel carries a writing instrument. The cap carries a clip. A free end of the clip includes a detent that can be received by a corresponding indentation of an exterior surface of an external portion of the barrel when the cap is assembled with the barrel. The detent of the clip and the indentation of the barrel are capable of securing the cap and the barrel in their assembled relationship. The writing instrument may be compact. Methods of using a writing instrument include securing a cap of the writing instrument to a barrel of the writing instrument by causing a detent of a free end of a clip of the cap to engage a corresponding indentation of an exterior portion of the barrel.
