WHEEL RIM

A wheel rim includes a body unit, angularly spaced-apart fastening units, and sealing units corresponding respectively in position to the fastening units. The body unit includes spokes and a peripheral wall surrounding the spokes and having radially opposite inner and outer surfaces. Each fastening unit includes a fastening member that extends through the peripheral wall and into a respective one of the spokes for fastening the same, and that has a head disposed outwardly of the outer peripheral wall, and a gasket that is clamped between the head and the outer surface and that is sleeved on the fastening member. For each fastening unit, the respective sealing unit includes an outer sealing layer adhered on an outer face of the fastening member and the outer surface for covering the head and the gasket, and an inner sealing layer adhered on and clamped between the outer surface and the gasket.

The invention is characterized in that the wheel disc (3, 11, 20, 29, 40) can be indirectly connected to the wheel rim (1), in particular the rim base (2), by means of a connecting element (5, 14, 22, 31, 35, 42) which is designed and associated with the rim base (2) in such a way that the connected wheel disc (3, 11, 20, 29, 40) is not in contact with the rim base (2).

The present disclosure provides a method of manufacturing a one-piece wheel having a hollow structure for noise reduction. At least one embodiment of the present disclosure provides a method of manufacturing a one-piece wheel having a hollow structure for noise reduction, the method comprising: fabricating, by using one or both of gravity casting and low-pressure casting, an integral casting in which a disk portion and a wheel rim portion are integrally formed, wherein the rim portion includes an annular protrusion radially protruding from an outer circumferential surface; forming at least one cavity by bending the annular protrusion through flow forming to provide a bending portion, resulting in the cavity using the bending portion and one side of the disk portion; and performing a friction stir welding between the one side of the disk portion and one end of the bending portion.

A process for manufacturing a light-alloy hybrid wheel, implements the following separate operation phases: making a flange with an internal profile capable of constituting a tire bead seat; making a rim with, on one side, an outer profile capable of constituting a tire bead seat and, on the other side, a circular flank for assembly with a part of the flange; and assembling the flange with the rim, at the seat of said flange and the circular flank of the rim. The rim is made according to the following consecutive operations: an operation of manufacturing a circular flank; then an operation of expanding said circular flank to the size of the final rim in a single step; then an operation of cold or hot flospinning of said circular flank so as to obtain the rim in the final shape and profile thereof, comprising a shoulder only on the side that will not be welded to the flange.

A wheel includes a first hoop attached to a second hoop about a circumferential interface. The first and second hoops form at least part of an enclosed box structure positioned circumferentially around the wheel and adjacent to an outboard side of the wheel. The box structure may be formed at least in part by circumferential projections of the first hoop and the second hoop. The wheel may also include a central hub that optionally includes spokes. In some embodiments, the central hub may form part of the enclosed box structure. In some embodiments, a first hoop portion and a second hoop portion may be integral or unitary, with a box structure integrally formed between the hoop portions.

By employing the automobile hub with the hollow rim, the hub assembling method, and the automobile having the hub, the weight of the hub can be further reduced, and the hub has sufficient strength.

The wheel assembly includes a composite wheel rim, a wheel center, and a plurality of attachment fasteners for attaching the wheel center to the wheel rim. The wheel rim includes a plurality of attachment inserts that are configured to selectively engage with respective attachment fasteners. Each attachment insert is encapsulated by a plurality of composite layers of the wheel rim or is otherwise secured to the wheel rim. The attachment inserts extend from and/or are positioned within a drop well region of the wheel rim. The method of fabricating the wheel assembly includes forming first and second preforms and positioning the same onto a mold assembly. The method further includes positioning the attachment inserts between the first and second preforms such that the attachment inserts are secured therebetween.

The present disclosure provides a process for manufacturing a light-alloy hybrid wheel comprising the following separate operation phases: obtaining a front flange with an internal profile including a tire bead seat; obtaining a rim with an annular profile including a tire bead seat at a first end and a circular flank for assembly with a part of the flange at a second end; and assembling the flange and the rim to form a wheel. The annular profiles of the flange and the rim form exterior and interior sides of the wheel. Assembling the flange and the rim comprises welding the flank of the rim and the flange together by a single friction stir weld using a pin such that the weld is exposed at the exterior and interior sides of the wheel.
