In a pneumatic tire, a belt cover disposed on an outer side in a radial direction of a belt layer includes a cover portion having a width equal to a width of the belt cover, and edge cover portions layered on the cover portion at two locations on both sides of the cover portion. Of the edge cover portions at the two locations, one of the edge cover portions is located on a radially inner side of the cover portion, and the other of the edge cover portions is located on a radially outer side of the cover portion. The belt cover is a single strip material having a band-like shape spirally wound about a tire rotation axis, and the cover portion at least partially includes a portion where circumferential portions adjacent in the width direction of the strip material that is spirally wound overlap in the radial direction.

The band 38 includes a full band 42 and a pair of edge bands 44. The full band 42 has an end 42e located axially outward of a shoulder circumferential groove 28s. The belt 40 includes a third belt ply 46C located radially inward of the pair of edge bands 44. A distance Y between each edge band 44 and the full band 42 or the third belt ply 46C is not less than 2.2 mm and not greater than 4.0 mm. A ratio of a tire thickness E at an end PE of a tread surface 22 to a tire thickness D at an equator plane is not less than 1.2 and not greater than 2.0.
Heavy load pneumatic radial tire with cap tread rubber, base tread rubber, and reinforcing rubber layer
Heavy load pneumatic radial tire according to the present invention includes: tread rubber 6 having laminated structure of cap rubber 5 and base rubber 4; and four or more belt layers 3a-3e disposed radially inward of tread rubber 6. A radially outer side of a width direction side edge of at least one of radially outermost belt layer 3e and widest-width belt layer 3c is covered by reinforcing rubber layer 7 that terminates on a radially inner side of tread rubber 6 without reaching tire equatorial plane E. Relative relation between reinforcing rubber constituting reinforcing rubber layer 7 and base rubber 4 in terms of modulus of rebound elasticity satisfies the condition: reinforcing rubber<base rubber 4.
