Provided is a pneumatic tire. A belt cover layer made of an organic fiber cord spirally wound along the tire circumferential direction is provided on the outer circumferential side of a belt layer in a tread portion, and a polyethylene terephthalate fiber cord of which the elastic modulus under a load of 2.0 cN/dtex at 100° C. is in the range of 3.5 cN/(tex.Math.%) to 5.5 cN/(tex.Math.%) is used as the organic fiber cord. The coating rubber covering the organic fiber cord contains one or more of natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, or butadiene rubber as a rubber component. The coating rubber is formed of a rubber composition in which the content of natural rubber in the rubber component is 50 mass % or more, and 5.0 parts by mass to 9.0 parts by mass of zinc oxide is blended per 100 parts by mass of the rubber component.

The band layer includes a full band and a pair of edge bands covering the axially outer edges of the belt layer. The pair of edge bands includes one or more organic fiber cords each having restraining force in a range from 5 to 35 N at radially outward locations of the outer edges of the belt layer.

In a cross-section of the cord, when represents a diameter of a smallest circle that surrounds cross-sections of the filaments, and represents a diameter of each filament, a gap is formed between the filaments such that the diameter is not less than three times the diameter and not greater than six times the diameter in the case of the number of the filaments being three or four. An initial elongation of the cord is not less than 0.1% and not greater than 1.5%.

A tire including a belt having a steel cord belt layer, and a bandage externally bearing radially on the belt. The bandage includes a rubber strip containing reinforcement cord. This rubber strip is wound about the belt at least from one axial belt end up to at least the other axial belt end, the ratio of the axial winding component to the circumferential winding component along the rubber strip is less than 0.01, and, over at least 70% of the axial belt width, does not vary by more than 2%. The spacing of two neighboring cords in two adjacent portions of the wound rubber strip at each circumferential position does not vary by more than 5% compared to the spacing of the cords in the rubber strip. The cords in the bandage are subjected to tension of at least 3 N/mm.sup.2 over at least 25% of the axial belt width.

TIRE AND PRODUCTION METHOD FOR TIRE

A tire 2 includes a tread 4, a belt 16, and a band 18. The belt 16 includes belt cords 44. The band 18 includes band cords 60. The band 18 is composed of a band strip 58. The band strip 58 is a cord array in which the band cords 60 are arranged. A zone from a first end to a second end of the belt 16 is a control zone. Residual tension of the band cords 60 in the control zone is not less than 15.0 N. The control zone includes a crown zone and a pair of shoulder zones. Residual tension of the band cords 60 in the crown zone is higher than residual tension of the band cords 60 in each shoulder zone. A shape index of a reference ground-contact surface of the tire 2 is not less than 1.00 and not greater than 1.30.

A PNEUMATIC RADIAL TIRE WITH HYBRID CORD REINFORCEMENT

Pneumatic radial tire comprising a tread (4) forming the outermost layer of the tire (1) and at least one belt (5) on top of the carcass (3) forming the inner layer of the tire (1). As cap ply reinforcement layer (6) hybrid cords are applied comprising polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and nylon 6.6 multifilament yarns to provide a pneumatic radial tire having high speed durability and a low flatspot feature.
