The present invention provides a pneumatic tire in which a steel cord carcass ply composed of an ultrafine wire having a filament diameter of 0.15 mm or less is used as a reinforcing material, and the carcass ply is positioned between the bead cords without turn-up of the carcass ply for turning up it through an annular bead bundle on an upper side of the carcass ply, such that side rigidity is maintained even when replacing two conventional fiber carcass plies with one steel carcass. Thereby, rather than the conventional turn-up method of turning up the carcass ply on the upper side of the annular bead bundle, the carcass ply passes through the bead bundles as shown in FIG. 3, such that a deformation energy of the bead portion is minimized and a rolling resistance is maximized. The tire of the present invention is characterized by satisfying a correlation equation between a height Bh1 of an inner bead bundle position and a height Ah of the bead portion including an apex of 1.2<Ah/Bh1<4.5.

The invention is characterised in that the product EF1 of the average modulus of elasticity of the reinforcements, as measured with an extension of 2%, of the first carcass ply (31) and the thread density of the reinforcements of the first carcass ply (31), and the product EF2 of the average modulus of elasticity of the reinforcements of the second carcass ply (32) and the thread density of reinforcements of the second carcass ply (32), satisfy the relationship EF1>EF2.

The elongation of the reinforcing elements of the second layer of carcass reinforcement is greater than 4% under a force of 20 daN, and the secant elastic modulus values under tension at 10% elongation, Mt, Mj, satisfy the relationship Mt/Mj≧1.

The band layer includes a jointless band ply in which a band cord is circumferentially wound spirally at an angle equal to or less than 5 degrees. The tread rubber includes a crown rubber portion. An angle θ1 of the carcass cords of the front-wheel tire is 65 degrees or more with respect to the tire circumferential direction. A rubber hardness of the crown rubber portion of the rear-wheel tire is greater than a rubber hardness of the crown rubber portion of the front-wheel tire.

The insulation can be located between first and second beads. A ratio (ta/td) of a thickness to of the topping rubber located between the insulation and the carcass cords to a thickness td of the insulation can be not less than 0.2 and not greater than 0.6.

A pneumatic tire comprises a tread portion, sidewall portions, bead portions each with a bead core embedded therein, and a carcass extending between the bead portions and comprising first carcass cords and second carcass cords. The first carcass cord comprises: a main portion extending from the tread portion to the bead portions via the sidewall portions; and folded-back portions continued from the main portion and folded back around the bead cores from the inside to the outside in the tire axial direction. The second carcass cord extends from the tread portion to the bead portions and terminates on the axially outside of the folded-back portions of the first carcass cords. Young's modulus of the second carcass cords is larger than Young's modulus of the first carcass cords.

The composite tire is resistant to wearing and also comfortable to use.

The elongation of the reinforcing elements of the second layer are greater than 8% under a force of 20 daN and the secant elastic modulus values under tension at 10% elongation, Mt, Mj, satisfy the relationship Mt/Mj1.
