A vehicle interior component is disclosed. The component provides a user interface with a display/image when illuminated. The component comprises a composite structure with a cover material providing a light-transmissive effect and a surface providing a surface effect (grain/wood texture) visible when the display is off. The image is presented at the cover surface when the display is on. The cover may comprise a wood veneer with backing (paper, fiber material, etc.). The composite structure may comprise a mask layer and a lens, filter, colorant, etc. The user interface may include a sensor. The light source may comprise a display panel, LED/array, module, etc. The image is visible at the user interface when display functionality is in operation; when display functionality is not in operation the surface effect of the cover (e.g. wood texture) is visible with substantially no indication of display functionality.

Vehicle interior component

A vehicle interior component is disclosed. The component may comprise a composite structure comprising a substrate and light guide and surface/cover with holes/pattern of apertures configured for illumination (by a light source/module) to provide an interface/display (with decorative and/or instrumentation region). The light guide may comprise a resin material formed as the set of projections in the pattern of apertures. The cover may comprise a decorative layer with backing configured to provide a visual/surface effect (e.g. natural material, wood veneer, etc.); the display may present a visual/decorative effect when illuminated at the pattern of apertures/light guide. The interface/display at the surface (by illuminated light guide/pattern of holes) may present indicia for a vehicle system and/or decorative effect. The component may comprise a trim/trim panel, instrument panel/dashboard, door panel/armrest, console, overhead trim/headliner, pillar/structure, seat, etc.

A surface panel is attached to an instrument panel so as to cover a display surface of a display unit disposed on the instrument panel of a vehicle. When the display unit is turned on, light L from the display unit is projected toward the driver's seat side via a thin hole formed in the surface panel.

Integration of switches in linings

An operating element for a vehicle interior is integrated in a flexible material and comprises an electroluminescent layer arranged between a first conducting layer and a second conducting layer. The arrangement of the first conducting layer, the second conducting layer and the electroluminescent layer is configured to be operable as a capacitive sensor.

A touch module for vehicle interior trim, including: a substrate; at least one layer of touch sensing layer disposed above the substrate, for generating a first signal upon a user's touch; a lighting layer disposed above the touch sensing layer; a decorative layer disposed above the lighting layer, at least part of the decorative layer being transparent or semi-transparent to allow light to pass through the lighting layer; and a tactile feedback layer disposed below the substrate and vibrating as a feedback according to the first signal generated by the touch sensing layer upon the user's touch. The touch module can be flexibly integrated into a vehicle interior trim such as a door, a center console, or an instrument panel to provide soft and comfortable touch feeling. An interior trim including the touch module and a vehicle having the touch module is also provided.

An illumination device includes: a light source; and a laminate that displays a predetermined design on a front surface by transmitting light emitted by the light source forward in a shape of the predetermined design. The laminate includes: a display layer that includes the front surface and is light transmissive; a reflective layer that includes a first opening having the shape of the predetermined design, is disposed between the display layer and the light source, and reflects external light transmitted from the front surface of the display layer rearward; a light blocking layer that includes a second opening having the shape of the predetermined design and overlapping the first opening, is disposed between the reflective layer and the light source, and blocks light; and a light diffusion layer that diffuses light and is disposed between the reflective layer and the light source to overlap the second opening.
