Kayak roof rack

A loading and transportation roof rack for the roof of a vehicle. It pivots off of its mounting plate on the vehicle's roof to a position parallel and beside the vehicle so the kayak can be loaded on and lashed down to its C shaped cradle. Thereafter, the roof rack may be tilted vertically onto the vehicle's roof and locked into place. There is a brace that is used to lock the cradle assembly in either the vertical or horizontal positions.

A hoist mechanism for loading an object onto a vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle may include an affixed roof rack having at least two transverse bars. The hoist mechanism includes: a horizontal bar and a vertical lift mechanism. The horizontal bar is affixable to a transverse bar, is hollow, and has an open end. The vertical lift mechanism is removably mate-able with the horizontal bar and includes: a vertical mast; a boom joined to the upper end; an insert bar fits into the open end, located away from the boom, and is releasably affixed in the horizontal bar; and a lift wire with a grapnel at a distal end, the lift wire running between the end of the boom and down the vertical mast. Wherein after the horizontal bar and insert bar are is affixed to the vehicle, the object is attached to the grapnel and hoisted onto the vehicle.

Kayak loading system

A system and method for loading items onto a vehicle. The system allows a support to be easily lowered from, for example, the roof of a vehicle towards the ground. The items to be loaded are secured in the supports at a much lower height than the roof of the vehicle to reduce the possibility of injury and eliminate the need of an additional person for loading and unloading objects onto the roof of a vehicle. Once the item is loaded onto the supports, the system can raise the item onto the roof and secure it in a safe position for transportation.

A cargo carrier device supports cargo thereon for movement relative to a truck box between a loading position substantially at ground level rearward of the truck box and a transport position above the vehicle. The device includes a cargo frame defining a planar rack for supporting cargo thereon above a passenger cab of the truck in the transport position. A cargo supporting crossbar can be selectively positioned above the planar rack which is adapted to suspend cargo therefrom. A four bar linkage which pivots through an intermediate over-center position between the loading and transport positions is adapted to support the crossbar i) centrally above the truck box in the transport position and ii) rearward of the truck box and lower in elevation in the loading position for use in hoisting suspended cargo into the truck box.
